4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
must be either: A. Open and closed on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.

Reft Well and Septic Design for Lot 2, Ptarmigan Subdivision
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a class "C" well located on Lot 1, Ptarmigan View and
a private septic system. The existing septic system consists of a documented log crib and an
undocumented trench. The septic system on the lot is in a state of failure and needs to be
upgraded. A test hole was excavated on the property. The proposed septic system will be
designed around the 30 foot radius of test hole #1. We are proposing that a 1000 gallon septic
tank and a trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are
summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: Attached is a soil log wtfich shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results. The soils below the organic layers are a SP material to a depth of
16.5 feet (bottom of test holes). No groundwater was encountered during the excavation of the
test holes. A percolation test was performed between the depth of 7.0 feet and 7.5 feet which
had a percolation rate of<l minute/inch. It is our opinion that the insitu softs will serve as a sand
filter.
2. TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: <1 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/ft2. We will use 1.0
e. Number of Bedrooms: 3
d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 450 ft2
f. Total Depth: 10.5 feet (max.)
g. Effective Depth: 6 feet
h. Width: 2.5 feet
i. Minimum Length: 38 feet long

3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: There is a slight hill that rans parallel to the proposed trench. The trench
is to be installed parallel to this slope contour.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

In condueting thie evaluation, AWWO, ln~. ~, ttI lpted to provide a thorough, consc/entioue eng/neering analysis of the
system in accordance with ADEC and MOA D HS Guidelines & Regulations. The reported results described the
performance of the system under the conditio ~ encountered at the time of the test, and separation distances
measured to readily identifiable features. The e ~erational life of all wells and septic systems depend
on the local soils condition, ground water levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water
usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of
the evaluator of the system. Satisfactocy test results do not guarantee future performance
of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments.
AWWC, Inc. can therefore not provide any warranty for future estimate of how long the
system will continue to meet the operational requirements of the ADEC or MOA DHHS.
The content of this report is for the sole benefit of the owner listed above. Any
reliance upon or use of this report by any other person or party is not authorized,
nor will it confer any legal right whatsoever.

Approval Certificates based only upon the representations given in paragraph 5 above by an independent
professional engineer registered in the State of Alaska. The DHHS does this as a courtesy to purchasers of
homes and their lending institutions in order to satisfy certain federal and state requirements. Employees of
DHHS do not conduct inspections or analyze data before a certificate is issued. The Municipality of
Anchorage is not responsible for errors or omissions in the professional engineer's work.

requesting a letter of compliance for the above Class "C" Public Water System serving a
single family residential dwelling. The Department has completed a review of the
monitoring status of this water system and found it to be in compliance for both coliform
bacteria and nitrate.
Since this drinking water system has been previously approved, and because it serves less
than 13 bedrooms or 25 residents, this water system is Viewed as a Class "C" Public Water
System. Verification that the water supply has been recently tested will be required to
maintain compliance with State Drinking Water Regulations. Recently collected water
sample analysis (7~28~97) were satisfactory for both total coliform bacteria and nitrate and
satisfy this concern. Therefore, for the concerns of this Department, this system is in
compliance with State of Alaska Drinking Water R~§ulations (18 AAC 80). Attached is a
"Public Health Authority Approval for On-site Drinking Water and Sewer Systems"
cert ficate verifying th's system's status as an approved water system that is in compliance
with 18 AAC 80. Any future modifications to this system will require prior review and
approval by this office. Please note that this letter does not imply any certification or status
of the existing on-site wastewater disposal system serving this property.
