Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Septic Upgrade Design for BLM Lot 65, SE 1/4, Section 7, T15N, R1W, To whom it may concern: The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private septic system and a private well. The existing septic system is undocumented and is believed to be a cesspool or crib. A test holel/was excavated to the south/southwest of the existing septic system. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached is a log which shows the soil profile, and the percolation test result. The soils below the organic layers is a GW material to a depth of 3 feet and then transitions into a GM material to a depth of 15 feet (bottom of test hole). Groundwater was encountered at 13 feet during the excavation of the test hole. A percolation test was performed between the depth of 5.5 feet to 6.0 feet which had a percolation rate of 2.8 minute/inch. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 2.8 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 375 ft2 f. Total Depth: 6 feet (max.) g. Effective Depth: 3 feet h. Width: 5 feet minimum i. Reduction Factor: 0.58 i. Minimum Length: 45 feet long j Effective absorption area = 388 ft2 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: The average topography in the area of the proposed drainfield is mostly fiat and then transitions to a 10 to 15 percent slope west of the proposed drainfield; in short, there are no slope concerns.
