Bragaw Street Anchorage, AK 99507 Re: Whitestone Estates Unit 7 Application for Reserve Trench Construction Dear Mr. Roth: Professional & Technical Services, Inc. (PTS) on behalf of the property owner of Unit 7, White Stone Estates Condominiums (located on the NE '/4 SE Y4 NW '/4, T14N Rl W Section 17) is submitting an application to construct a new wastewater disposal field. The new disposal field is to be installed in the location of the reserve trench identified in the initial application for wastewater disposal permit (Permit SW980002, Health Authority # HA990132). As discussed previously with you and your staff, sometime after the installation and approval of the disposal field a french drain was installed that crossed the disposal field. This was discovered when PTS attempted to perform an adequacy test on the existing disposal field. Due to the location of this disposal field and because time is of the essence for the homeowner, it is more practical and cost-effective to abandon the existing field and construct a new field than to attempt to abandon and/or reroute the existing subdrain. Presently the wastewater system consists of a 1300 -gallon septic tank discharging to a Biocycle Model 6000, which ultimately discharges into a 5' -wide by 66' -long trench. The effective depth of the trench is 4' below the perforated pipe. This system serves an existing 5 -bedroom house. The new trench is to be placed in the general location of Test Pit 14, as reflected on the attached site plan. This location is below an existing keystone retaining wall, more than 15' from the toe of the retaining wall. The proposed field is more than 50' from the top of a slope greater than 25%, also shown on the site plan. MSO4 Onsite Permit application lettendoc 2 of 2 07/09/04 Calculations for the disposal field are provided in the table below: No. Bedrooms Max Flow Pert Rate Application Rate Absorption 50% Red. Health & Human Services This letter serves as a revision to existing permit number SW -980002 issued by the Department of Health and Human Services for what will be Unit 7 of White Stone Estate Condominiums, located on the East ''/z of the Southeast'/4 of the Northwest'/4 of Section 17, Township 14 North, Range 1 West, Seward Meridian. Two new test pits have been excavated and percolation tests have been performed in the area of the new primary and reserve trenches. The new disposal field has been relocated to the east side of the house. Soil logs and percolation tests data for Test Pits 13 & 14, performed by Crowther Associates, are also attached. The average of the percolation tests of 20 minutes per inch, (Test Pit 13's percolation rate was 13 minutes per inch and Test Pit 14's percolation rate was 27 minutes per inch) was used to size the disposal field. A ground water depth of 13.5 feet below ground surface was encountered in Test Pit 13. The disposal field has been designed as a five-foot (5') wide trench with twelve inches (12") of gravel beneath the perforated pipe. Calculations for the disposal field are provided in the table below. UNIT MA)L FLOW (GPD) PERCOLATION RATE (MINAN.) Mr. Betts was accompanied by a representative from your firm during the inspection. The following items were inspected to make sure the BioCycle system was operating properly: the 80 I/man air blower, the Meyers ME 40 discharge pump; the floats operating the discharge pump. In addition, the aeration system was inspected to be sure all aerators were functioning properly and air flow to each was balanced. This inspection was in addition to the regularly scheduled quarterly maintenance performed on all BioCycles during January/April/July/pctobcr each year. This system has received quarterly maintenance without exception since .it was .installed in 1997. If you have any questions regarding the Lester's BioCycle system„ please feel free to contact me at 398-6574 or Larry Betts at 862-7434 cell/646-8083 office.
