GENERAL: The existing 5 bedroom home ~s served by a private septic system and a public water system. The existing septic system is sm'charged and must be upgraded prior to the sale of the house. There are numerous site constraints which are as follows: · The locatiou of the house and driveway · The small lot size · The location of the existing septic system Given these site constraints, we are proposing to install the Recircnlating Upflow Filter (REACTEX) system. 2. SOIL CONDITIONS: The test hole was excavated west of the existing septic system. In this test hole, the soils below the organic layer is a GP ~naterial to depth of 14 feet (bottom of test hole). At the time of excavation of the test holes, no groundwater was encountered. A percolation test was performed between 3 feet to 4 feet and found the rate to be 2.35 minut/inch. 3. DRAINFIELD: The intent is to install a Recirculating Upflow Filter (Reactex) System that will allow the use of a small drainfield in the area around a 30 foot radius of the test hole. The size of the drainfield will be based upon the previously established criteria for the Reactex systems, which dictates that soils percolating between 1 & 30 minutes/inch have an allowable application rate of 4 gpd/f¢2, and soils percolating between 30 & 60 minutes/inch have an 2 ~ allowable application rate of 2 gpd/ft . Given the percolation rate of 2.4 minute/inch we p 'opose that a 4 gpd/ft2 application rate wonld apply. We are proposing to install a 5 foot wide drainfield 6901 Debarr Road, Suite 2B - Anchorage, AK 99504 ~ Ph: (907)337-6179 ~ Fax: (907)338-3246 that is 30 feet long that is 8 feet deep (remove all organics). We propose that 4 foot of clean, washed, sewer drainrock be added below the distribution line. This corresponds to an absorption area of 300 f~t2, or an application rate of 2.5 gpd/ft2 (assuming 750 gpd total flow). 4. ORENCO PACKAGE SYSTEM: The STEP tank with the trickling and upflow filter will be manufactured by Anchorage Tank & Welding to meet the latest design criteria established by Orenco Systems, Inc. The point of contact at Anchorage Tank is Lo,veil McNutt. As with their standard STEP tank, it is equipped with a high water alarm per M.O.A requirements. 5. SURFACE WATER: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic system upgrade. 6. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, .... 7. LOT LINE WAIVER: We would like to request that your department issue a property line waiver on the suhject property for separation between the leachfield and the west property line at one (1) foot. There is a ten foot utility easement running along the south lot line on the property west of the subject lot. There are no wells, septics, or water lines that have been encroached upon. We do not anticipate any adverse effects by this waiver. 8. CLOSING: I am open to any suggestions fi'om your department that would be an improvement to the proposed systenr. I am unaware of any negative impacts that this installation would impose onhadjacent wells, or septic systems. The Septic tank was pumped and verified to have a capacity of 12'50 gallons. The seepage pit was tested by charging the system with 1000 gallons of fresh and after a period of 24 hours approximately 308 gallons had percolated out of the crib. I~ can be concluded from this test 'that 'the waste water disposal system serving the four bedroom residence located on this p~operty is not currently functioning adequately. The septic talc is adequate in capacity, however the seepage pit will have 'to be upgraded to allow for percolation of a sufficieint quantity of water for 'two additional bedrooms.
