The wooden top started sagging, so I had the top removed. Then filled with sewer drainage rock. A 4 inch perforated pipe going from the top to the bottom put in. I had drainage fabric put over the top of the rock and refilled back in with dirt. The field is working great. Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Septic System Upgrade Design for Lot 12, Block 3, McMahon Subdivision To whom it may concern: The existing three bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The existing septic system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank and a seepage pit type drainfield. The drainfield is a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. A test hole was excavated northwest of the existing septic system. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of test hole #1. We are proposing that a new 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached is a log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. The soils below the organic layers are a SM material to a depth of 7 feet and th~ transitions to a ML material to a depth of 16 to 16.5 feet. At 16.0 to 16.5 feet the soils transitions to a SP material to a depth of 17.5 feet (bottom of test hole). No groundwater was encountered during the excavation of the test hole. A percolation test was performed between the depth of 7.5 feet and 8.0 feet which had a percolation rate of 13.3 minute/inch. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, a application rate of 0.8 gallons/day/ft2 should be used. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 13.3 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.8 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 563 ft2 f. Total Depth: 11.5 feet (max.) g. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: The topography of this property is relatively flat and there are no slope concerns. The trench is to be installed parallel to slope contours. We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems.
