To whom it may concern:
The subject lot has a trench (installed in 2000), seepage pit (installed in 1974) and a 1250 -
gallon HDPE Greer tank that was installed in 2020. The existing trench and new septic tank are
sized for 4 bedrooms. We are requesting that your department give a 4 -bedroom approval for
the subject septic system. Justifications for granting this approval are as follows:
The new septic tank is 1250 gallons, which is sized adequately for a 4 -bedroom home.
The existing trench type drainfield that was installed in 2000 is sized for 4 -bedrooms, the
calculations are shown below:
o Per MOA onsite code a 4 -bedroom home must be sized adequately to support a
load of 600 gallons/day
o Per the inspection report in MOA records, the soil rating for the subject system is
0.8 gpd/ft2
0 600 gallons/day _ 0.8 gpd/ft2 = 750 ft2
o Per the inspection report, the trench has 787 ftz
It should be notedythat although the 2000 trench is sized for 4 bedrooms, the 1974 seepage pit
is not. In short, t14e11seepage pit may not be used for a 4 -bedroom COSA approval.

The seepage pit was working great. The wooden top started sagging, so I had the top
removed. Then filled with sewer drainage rock. A 4 inch perforated pipe going from the top to the
bottom put in. I had drainage fabric put over the top of the rock and refilled back in with dirt. The field
is working great.

Ref: Septic System Upgrade Design for Lot 12, Block 3, McMahon Subdivision
To whom it may concern:
The existing three bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The existing
septic system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank and a seepage pit type drainfield. The
drainfield is a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. A test hole was excavated northwest of
the existing septic system. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius
of test hole #1. We are proposing that a new 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type
drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: Attached is a log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and
the percolation test results. The soils below the organic layers are a SM material to a depth of 7
feet and th~ transitions to a ML material to a depth of 16 to 16.5 feet. At 16.0 to 16.5 feet the
soils transitions to a SP material to a depth of 17.5 feet (bottom of test hole). No groundwater
was encountered during the excavation of the test hole. A percolation test was performed
between the depth of 7.5 feet and 8.0 feet which had a percolation rate of 13.3 minute/inch. It is
our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, a application rate of 0.8
gallons/day/ft2 should be used.
2. TRENCH DESIGN:

b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.8 gallons/day/ft2
c. Number of Bedrooms: 3
d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day

3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: The topography of this property is relatively flat and there are no slope
concerns. The trench is to be installed parallel to slope contours.
