ARM Septic Services LLC recently checked the monitoring tubes in the drainfield and found the deep trench to be at 55% full (48" of liquid depth in 7.23 feet of effective depth) and has remained at this level since 2018 (see attached ARM emails) In order to simplify the operation and maintenance of the system, we are proposing that this unit be permanently configured as a CAT II system. Our justifications are as follows: The receiving soil has a percolation rate of 2.2 minutes per inch. Given this percolation rate, a 4.0 gpd/sq.ft. application rate is required for a Cat II system. The residence on this property has a total of 3 -bedrooms, so 112.5 sq./ft. of absorption area is required for CAT 11 effluent (450 gpd / 4.0). In short, the drainfield meets Cat II sizing requirement for 3 -bedrooms. The Inspection Report shows a 3.0 gpd/sq.ft. application rate, which is conservative, so it should not need to be amended. At this time, we request that your department approve a CAT II configura Ion to sed at the referenced property. We are proposing that a new 1500 gallon septic tank, a 30" or 36" Quanics pump vault with Aerocell floats/controls, a Quanics Aerocell treatment unit with Jandy valve assembly, and a deep trench type drainfield be installed. One test hole was excavated on the property by S&S engineering. The drainfield will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. Waivers have been granted (see attached) from A.D.E.C. for the class "C" well located on the adjacent property to the proposed septic upgrade. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached design drawing the average topography below the drainfield is approximately a 5 percent slope running northeast to southwest. There is a slope approximately 40 feet downhill of the testhole that is approximately 40 percent. We request a 35 foot waiver to this slope that is greater than 25 percent. (see attached slope detail drawing) 5. LOT LINE WAIVER: We request a 1 foot lot line waiver from the west and south lot line to the proposed drainfields, septic tank, and pump vault. The septic system on the adjacent lot is 10+ feet from the lot line. We are unaware of any adverse impacts with the granting of this waiver. 3701 E. This walver request is made to reduce the separation distance from the Class "C" source well on Lot 7 of Block A. Glacier View Heights and the replacement field and the septic tank portion of a new treatment unit to be installed under your firm's observation and approved by the Municipality of Anchorage's On-site Wastewater Program on Lot 8, Block A, Glacier View Subdivision. Recent drinking water samples did not detect any nitrate as nitrogen, The well logs in the area indicate confining layers of clay and gavel material throughout the depth of the well log until gravel is reached near the 165 foot depth. The engineer has designed an advance SCAT Aerocell type treatment be used which is expected to reduce the nitrate to 20 mg/1 before disposal into the deep trench type soil absorption system. Based upon the engineer's recommendation, the separation distances are reduced as follows: • The 150 foot separation distance from the Class "C" source well on Lot 7 to the new 1,000 gallon two compartment septic tank is reduced to 145 feet. • The 150 foot separation distance from the same Class "C" source well to the new deep trench type soil absorption system is reduced to 135 feet. The Department reduces the separation distances per 18 AAC 72.060. Should a threat to public health be associated with this site the waivers may be rescinded. This approval does not imply the granting of additional authorizations nor obligate any state, federal or local regulatory body to grant required authorizations. Any person who disagrees with this decision may request an adjudicatory heating in accordance with 18 AAC 15.195-18 AAC 15.340 or an informal review by the Division Director in accordance with 18 AAC 15.185. Due to boulders observed in the tank excavation, it is recommended that this value be increased by 20 percent and a value of 150 square feet of absorption area per bedroom be used for design. The AWWTS shall be maintained in a satisfactory condition capable of performing as designed and producing treated septic effluent in accordance with the equipment's approval for operation in the Municipality. It shall be the responsibility of the Owner during the term of this Agreement to pay for all repair(s), maintenance, adjustment(s), replacement costs, and inspection costs. This includes an annual maintenance fee (typically $400 to $600). Owner agrees that only maintenance and repair personnel approved by the Municipality or the manufacturer's representative will inspect and make any necessary maintenance, repairs or permitted alterations to the system. Owner acknowledges that regular maintenance of an AWWTS reduces the potential failure of the system, which could include sewage backup and costly repairs or drainfield replacement. Amendment. This Agreement shall only be amended by authorized representatives of the Owner and Municipality.
