The septic tank/crib is to be decommissioned and a new STEP Tank/trench system installed. The design calls for a new 36' long trench with new STEP tank. The entire subdivision is on private wells and septic systems. The terrain slopes north to south. The slightly higher ground required a STEP Tank to access. This temporarily dips and then flattens out. The short slope is @ 25%. Trench has been located as far as possible from this anomaly. 2. MT's provided at both ends. 3. Neighbor wells added. 4. A septic tank/crib is currently in use-this will be decommissioned per UPC and new STEP tank w/ trench installed.Neighbor lots are served by septic systems and private wells;there are no conflicts. The topography slopes from north to south as depicted in drawing. Recent soil test reveals clean sand w/gravel,no groundwater.An application rate of 1.2 GPD/FT2 will be used for the trench. Length=500 FT2/6' x 2=41.7' trench, Say 42',6' effective depth. 9' total depth. Specification Requirements: All components and work must comply with the Municipality of Anchorage Specifications(AMC) &State of Alaska Drinking Water Regulations and Wastewater Regulations. • New 1500 Gallon STEP tank. Anchorage Tank or Equal. • 5' minimum between the tank and trench. 10' minimum to property line from trench. • 4' of cover and insulation is required for force main;2" Minimum thickness for insulation. • Tank& solid pipe must be set on well compacted, stable soil. • 4 inch diameter cleanouts with airtight caps are required 1' to 4' from foundation wall, prior to any 90 degree bend in 4 inch line. • All cleanouts must extend to at least ground level. • In solid pipe runs, ASTM D-3034 may be used in lieu of cast iron. • Trench to be placed level, minimum of 4' to groundwater, 6' to bedrock. • Drain rock to be %2' to 2 '/2" screened. Permits are issued on a calendar year basis by authority of Municipal Ordinance. A new permit must be obtained from this Department for any well and/or on-site sewer system not installed by the expiration date. If you have drilled the well, a well log needs to be sent to this Department for documentation of the installation and to close the permit. If a private engineer inspected the installation of the on-site sewer system, the orginal as -built inspection report (three-part form) must be sent to this office for review and approval, and for documentation. When applying for a new permit, the fees are: $90.00 for an on-site sewer permit; $50.00 for a well permit; $140.00 for a combined sewer and well permit. S & S Engineering 17034 Eagle River Loop, Suite 204 Eagle River, Alaska 99577 a Subject: Waiver Request For Lot 1 Block D Glacier View Heights Waiver Request Number WR88-013 Dear Mr. Shafer: Your request for waiver of the required 100 foot separation of a proposed private well to a septic tank and seepage pit has been approved. This approval is for 83 feet and 86 feet respectively. This waiver is based upon the State of Alaska Separation Distance Waiver Guidelines. The points calculated from the guidelines indicate the possibility of well water contamination from the septic system is low. The Health Department does not believe, however, that the reasons for drilling a new well approximately 10 feet away from the existing nonproductive well are logical. Our records indicate that private wells on nearby properties are producing adequate quantities of water at depths of approximately 80 feet to 110 feet on top of the bedrock. If there is, in fact, water at a depth of 98 feet where the proposed well is to be constructed, then we would strongly recommend the process of perforating the casing of the existing well from approximately 98 feet to 109 feet where bedrock begins. There may possibly be an aquifer flowing through the gravel on top of the bedrock that could supply Mr. Stafford's existing well with water. According to our information, the perforation process can be completed for considerably less expense than constructing a new well 100 feet deep to achieve the same results. This waiver approval applies to the existing septic system to well separation only. Any future upgrade to either will require all separations be met or another approval from this department.
