Minimum distance between a well and any on-site sewage disposal system is 100 feet for a private well or 150 to 200 feet from a public well depending upon the type of public well. Minimum distance from a private well to a private sewer line is 25 feet and to a community sewer line is 75 feet. Well logs are required and must be returned to this department within 30 days of the well completion. Other requirements may apply. Specifications and construction diagrams are available to insure proper installation. Street Anchorage, Ak. 99501 Attn: Mr. Les Bucholz Dear Mr. Bucholz: In accordance with the purchase order for services, on Thursday the 10th of September, 1981, 13:30, we investigated the amount of rock in a seepage system located on lot 5, block 7 Granite View Subdivision. In addition we made a soils log of the profile near the field in order to determine whether or not water was present at a shallower depth then 4 foot below the bottom of the trench. During the study a total of three hole where drilled through the rock. The first hole was drilled using a 4.5 inch auger and the Mobile B24 Drill. This hole was located at the extreme east end of the trench. The second hole was approximately 5 foot to the west of the intersection of the feed line from the old log crib to the distribution line. A reference point was located at the side of the excavation and a engineers hand level was used to determine whether or not the distribution pipe was laid level. T'is level was checked at 4 places over the length of the distribution system. The methodology used to measure the depth of rock in the pipe was to use a mud bit on the tip of the auger and to allow the auger to feed slowly through the rock until it met the resistance of undisturbed soil. At the point of resistance the depth of burial of flights of augers were measured. This gave the depth from the bottom of the trench to the top of the sewer rock. A measurement was made of the depth of the sewer rock over the 4 inch pipe. Where the 4 inch auger was not used a Mobile Minuteman drill with 3.5 inch augers were used to measure the depth of the rock. The Findings of the Survey: 1) The amount of rock under the pipe at the three points determined going from north to west to south are as follows: 5.3 feet at the east end of the hole, 4.8 feet at the location of 5 foot from the center of the distribution system and 4.8 feet at approximately 7 feet from the sump. 2) The length of the legs of the trench are as follows: 36 feet on the east-west leg and 22 feet on the north-south leg. 3) The cover of rock over top the pipe ranged from 2 inches to 6 inches throughout the area. 1220 LUes125th Aucnue ·/~nchoraqe, /~laska 99503 · (907) 276-1361 ~) The distance from the top of the pipe to the ground at the point at which the pipe entered the log crib is 7 feet. The distance from where the pipe enters the log crib to the bottom of the crib is 5.5 ft. 5) The rock material appears to meet the specification of the Department of Health and Environmental Quality. ie- clean gravel from .5 to 2.5 inches in diameter. At the completion of the study the B24 drill was used with 4.5 inch augers were used to drill into the ground approximately 1 foot to the west of the system and approximately 6 foot to the north. This hole was drilled to a depth of thirteen feet, the soils were GM with occational fine sand layer from surface to 10 feet and from 10-13 feet it was a silt plastic but no evidence of ground water at this depth. We have determined that this hole would then be in excess of 4 feet below the bottom of the trench. A percolation test was not performed. The required dimensions of the permit were a total depth of 9 feet, a length of 50 feet and a depth of 5 foot of gravel underneath. This would give a total of effective absorption area of 500 sqft. The system as presently installed using total length of 58 ft and an average depth of 4~8 ft would be 557 sqft. The system as installed would meet or exceed the requirements of the permit. (3) The septic tank pumped, with a receipt submitted to this department. Expose the well for our inspection to determine proper construction, also to insure the minimum distance requirements are met between your well and sewer system. An adequacy test be performed on ~he existing leaching area. This test will determine if the system is adequate according to National Standards. A listing of private firms' performing t.he test is enclosed. This report needs to be submitted to ~~this department for our review.
