The septic system drainfield was upgraded in December, 2001. The septic tank's integrity had been verified at that time and would continue to service the home. Recently, the tank has proven to be in need of replacement. We would like to inform your office that the homeowner will be upgrading the septic tank under the December 2001 permit # SW010476 (per agreement with Jim Cross). Box 196650, Anchorage, Ak 99519-6650 (907) 343-7904 Ref: Septic System Upgrade Design for Lot 21, Block 2; McKinley View Estates Subdivision To whom it may concern: The existing three bedroom house is served by a community water system and a private septic system. The septic system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank, a 500 gallon lift station, and a pressurized bed type drainfield. The drainfield is in a state of failure and must be upgraded prior to the sale of the house. A test hole was excavated north/northwest of the existing septic system. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. During the excavation of the test hole, the existing septic tank was excavated and found the tank to be of good integrity. We are proposing that a pressurized bed type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached is a log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an application rate of 0.5 gallons/day/ft2 should be used. 2. TRENCII DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 3.64 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.5 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 900 ft2 f. Total Depth: 3 feet (maximum) g. On -Site Wastewater Disposal System Record Drawing Submittal & Health Authority Approval Dear Sirs, The following submittal contains three Record Drawing sheets which reflect field measurements and any changes made in the design of the Pressure Upgrade Septic. System during construction. Also included in the package are a standard Municipality Yellow Sheet & Blue Sheet for a Health Authority Approval for sale of this property. The Upgrade had 5 inspections by this engineer. The initial inspection was of the existing septic tank for structural integrity. The tank was excavated to below the level of the outlet piping, and probed for weakness. None was found. The subgrade, cut to during initial excavation, was inspected on 1/19/95. The material was found to be the same as that tested during the Percolation Test. On 1/19, the electrical work was completed by Sparrow's Electric, and a test was conducted of the floats and alarm. On 1/20, the septic rock was inspected, and a test conducted of the pump and laterals to ensure that the distribution system works. Water stream Head above the orifice in the south laterals was noted to be 2.67 ft, with a design height of 2.5 ft. At this time, the Winter portion of the project has been completed. The contractor will return in the Spring to grade the yard, replace the fencing removed for access, and place 6" of topsoil and seed. Site Narrative The following site narrative describes the probable impacts of an on-site wastewater disposal system upgrade for the existing 3 bedroom home on the above noted lot, located in T15N, R1 W, Sec. 4. The street address of the lot is 21408 Baron Dr. The lot is located on property which comprised Oberg's Field in Peter's Creek prior to being subdivided. The property is characterized by low rolling hills interspersed with flat open fields. The lot contains 0.72 Ac more or less. This lot has been cleared of almost all of the natural vegetation. Some small Birch provide decorative relief in the front yard, on the east side of the house. The rear yard, to the west of the house has been completely cleared of vegetation, and replanted in lawn. The west portion of the lot from the house to the west property line is essentially flat. The flat grade of the west portion of the lot extends to the lots to the north and south. The lot is bounded on the north, south and across Baron St. to the east by developed lots, which draw their water from the community well located approximately 300 ft. to the north east of the north property line of this lot. No encroachment of this system on any well radii is possible. The west 1/4 of this lot is traversed by a 75 ft. wide Electrical Transmission Easement, which reduces the space available to the lot owner to utilize for reserve area. The proposed system is approximately 100 ft. south of the mound system on Lot 22, and approximately 80 ft. north of the mound system on Lot 20. The septic systems for houses across Baron St. are located in the rear yards, and are therefore more than 160 ft. to the east of the proposed system. Site drainage appears to be to the west from this lot, as well as from the Tots adjacent to the north & south. No ponding of Spring run-off will be possible, due to the mounding of the drainfield, and the <2% slope to the west. The Percolation Test Hole for this system showed no ground water, but logs from Lot 20 showed ground water to within 6 ft. of the surface. It is for this reason, and the common knowledge that the ground water fluctuates greatly in this area, that the system has been designed as a pressure mound. Placing the bottom of the system at 2 ft. below the existing grade should provide at least 4 ft. of separation to seasonally high ground water. It is felt that combined with the pressure dosing system and high caliber installation, that this system should last for a design life of 20 years if properly cared for.
