Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Re: Lot 5, Block F, Knik Heights Subdivision, 12940 Shelburne Rd., On -Site Water and Wastewater Disposal System Permit Application, 4 -Bedroom Single Family Dwelling, Permit Modification. In accordance with AMC 15.65.030, the following information is provided in support of the modification of On-site Wastewater Disposal System Permit Application for the subject property. All materials submitted in support of the subject permit are valid with the following exceptions: The owner of the property has decided to construct a 5 -bedroom dwelling. The original permit submittal included a 1,500 -gal Septic tank, but the soils absorption field was only designed for a 4 -bedroom house. Additional percolation tests were performed, labeled P-3 and P-4 in the attachment. P-1 and P-2 were re - accomplished at 30 -minute intervals. See Test Hole # 1 Soils Log and attached percolation data. • P-1 — 14.70 minfin. • P-2 — 20.83 min/in. • P-3 — 22.72 minrn. • P-4 — 25.00 min/in. The average for the 4 percolation tests was 20.81 min/inch. 2. During the percolation tests, the Well Driller, Alpine Drilling, was on-site and installed the well. It was noted during installation that the silty sand material was very deep, over 60 ft, and no ground water was present. An additional test hole, Test Hole # 2 was installed, 09/28/09. The soils log is attached. The test hole was installed at 20.0 ft below grade, and no water was present in the test hole. The ground water was monitored, 10/05/09, and no ground water was noted. See Test Hole # 2 Soils Log, attached. 3. The design of the dwelling included a daylight basement. This basement resulted in the invert of the sewer line from the dwelling to be at 5.5 ft below grade. It appears that the invert of the perforated pipe in the soils absorption field will be at 5.0 ft below grade or lower. The design was changed to reflect the invert at 5.0 ft below grade and the bottom of the gravel to be 14.0 ft below grade. Page 1 of 2 1aa2oo9 Knik Hts4-5BFKing-MuniSASPennitModficationUiVI.doc 4. The system will be a deep trench. The design application rate will be 0.6. GPD/SF. The top of the trench will be 5.0 below grade. The bottom of the trench will be 14.0 feet below the distribution pipe. 5 br x 150 gpd/br = 750 gal/day, 750 gpd/0.6 gpd/sq ft requires a minimum of 1,250 sq ft of absorption area. Then 1,250 sq ft / 2 = 625 sq ft / 9 ft = 69.44 If of trench. 5. There will be a single deep trench that will be at least 69.44 feet long. This will provide for a total of at least 1,250sq ft of absorption area. This will allow the bottom of the system to be at least 6 feet above an impermeable layer or bedrock and at least 4 feet above seasonally high ground water. If, during construction, it is determined the invert of the line from the septic tank to the soils absorption field is lower than 6.0 ft below grade at the soils absorption field, the soils absorption field will be lengthened to provide sufficient trench. 6. There is a total of 85.0 ft of trench in the design. This is the maximum length that can be constructed, since the percolation tests limit the length. This length is Indicated on the construction plans, but the ultimate length may be shorter, depending upon the invert of the line from the septic tank at the soils absorption field. This will be verified by the engineer, prior to construction of the soils absorption field. 7. There are wells on the adjacent lots. There are also on-site absorption systems on the adjacent lots. The proposed well location on the subject lot is at least 100 feet from any soils absorption systems on any adjacent lot. No portion of the proposed and replacement soils absorption field on the subject lot is within the 100 ft radius of any well on adjacent lots. 8. It does not appear the system on this property will prevent development of the adjacent lots or the installation of replacement systems on the adjacent lots.
