Septic System Design and Permit Application
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear Onsite Services Engineer
The septic tank on Lot 1, Stuart Subdivision is located inside the protective radius of the
well to the north and is also nearing failure and must be replaced. We are proposing to
replace the tank with a new 1,000 -gallon steel septic tank to serve the three-bedroom
home on the lot. We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the construction
of a new septic tank. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the
location and configuration of the existing septic system and the location of the new
tank. Also identified on the plans is the existing well on the lot and those in the
surrounding area. The existing tank on the lot will be properly disposed on the property
in accordance with Municipal Code and backfilled. The drainage patterns on the
property will be maintained after construction.
The ground surface on the lot slopes to the northwest at a 3% grade in the area of the
new tank. It will be located outside all well radii and closer to the existing house. The
new septic tank will be constructed near the existing foundation cleanouts and tied in to
the existing service line. The tank will be constructed parallel with the contours of the
land as much as possible in conformance with Municipal requirements.
If the tank is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply
The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in
the area or those to be constructed in the future.
2. The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing
septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future.

space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area.
4. The tank, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage

The owner of Lot 1, Stuart Subdivision is moving the well on the lot to allow more space
for a future septic system upgrade. We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for
the construction of the new well. The existing well will be abandoned in accordance
with all requirements of the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation
(ADEC). The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location of the
proposed well and the existing well on the lot. Also identified on the plans is the
existing septic system and the wells and septic systems on adjacent lots.
The ground surface on the lot slopes at gentle grades in all directions. The new well
will be constructed in an area that will not impact adjacent lots or septic systems.
If the well if constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply:

the area or those to be constructed in the future.
