DATE: S 1/2_5— quanics GARNESS ENGINEERING GROUP, Ltd Alaska Authorized ENGINEERING SALES CONSULTING April 11, 2025 Russel Tanner 10501 Birch Road Anchorage, AK RE: Snowcup L2 —10501 Birch Road — Well and Septic System Evaluation Dear Mr. Tanner, Per your request, we conducted an inspection of the septic system and well serving the above -referenced property in support of your application for a Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) Certificate of Onsite Systems Approval (COSA). Well flow testing and septic testing were performed on April 2, 2025. Our findings are summarized below: Septic System: The septic system consists of a 1,500 -gallon steel septic tank and a deep trench leach field with an effective depth of 84 inches. Both were installed in October of 2010. Upon our arrival (4/2/25) the drainfield had 80 inches of liquid in it. We took elevation shots and determined that the monitoring tube extends approximately 81 inches below the invert. In short, the water level in the drainfield was only 1 inch below the invert of the drainpipe, indicating that the drainfield was almost 99% full. If the drainfield liquid depth was one inch higher the system would have been deemed to be technically failed. After introducing only 146 gallons of water, the liquid level in the drainfield rose 1.75 inches (about 0.75 inches above the invert of the lateral). The introduction of an additional 142 gallons of water caused an additional rise of 3.5 inches (liquid at top of drainpipe lateral). The introduction of water was stopped, and the system was allowed to recover for a period of 154 minutes, during which time the liquid level dropped approximately 3.5 inches (approximately 1.75 inches above the invert of the later). Based upon our readings/calculations, the absorption rate (in a slightly surcharged condition) is close to 850 gallons per day (gpd). Given the limited surge capacity of the drainfield, the fact that the system was 99% full prior to starting the test, and the marginal recovery of the drainfield, it is my opinion that the drainfield is at the end of its useful life and should be replaced prior to issuance of a COSA. Well Flow Test and Water Sampling/Analysis: The well flow test indicated a yield of over 5.5 gallons per minute. A PIWA (Private Individual Water Analysis) sample was also collected, and results will be emailed to you upon receipt from the laboratory. We propose to install one deep trench to serve the existing 5-bedroom residence. The design is based on the test hole conducted by Brian T Harten, PE on July 26, 2007. Solls Investigation: A soils exploration was completed in August of 2007 by BTH Construction The soils encountered were clean well graded sand in the area where the new drain field will be installed. The percolation rate of the soil based on the test performed is faster than I rain/in, the soil has sufficient sand content as to no warrant the installation of a sand liner. Bedrock and ground water were not encountered in the test pit. Ground water was not observed after the water monitoring period.
