Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Well and Septic Design for Broadview Subdivision; Lot 1, Block 3 To whom it may concern: The existing 3 bedroom house is currently served by a private well and septic system. The existing drainfield is in a state of failure and in need of an upgrade prior to the sale of the house. One test hole was excavated on the property to find an area suitable for an onsite septic system. The proposed septic system will be designed within the 30 foot radius of the test hole. We are proposing that a Biocycle aerobic treatment unit and a five foot wide drainfield be installed. There are numerous site constraints which are as follows: • The steep topography • The presence of shallow bedrock • The presence utility easements • The location of the existing drainfield • The limited lot size Given these site constraints, we are proposing to install the Biocycle aerobic treatment plant. 1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an application rate of 3 gallons/day/R2 should be used. 2. TRENCIi DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 4 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 3 gallons/day/fit c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 150 0 f. Total Depth: 2 feet maximum from original grade, not the exisitng fill grade. g. In the process they will need a Certificate of Onsite Systems Approval (COSA) from the On -Site Water and Wastewater section. A requirement for that is to have a legal source of water. The first part of the Right of Way permit has been signed and can be easily misunderstood as being an encroachment permit since "ENCROACHMENT" is the title of the permit. AWWC is the engineering firm of record for this installation. On May 28, 2009 we contracted with JR Pumping Services to pump the BioCycle system per MOA requirements. The MOA requires any advanced system that has been in service more than 2 years be pumped in the event of the sale of that property. Mr. Larry Betts, BioCycle services technician, coordinated the pumping and was present to instruct JR's Pumping on the procedure. As you are aware this residence was completely destroyed by fire in 2008. Mr. Betts, using a portable generator, checked the proper operation of all mechanical equipment in the BioCycle system. He determined that the 80 liter/minute air blower, the Meyers 0.4HP, discharge pump and all pump floats were working properly. When the residence is replaced, as is the intention of the new owner, BioCycle Alaska, Inc. will install a new control panel and new wiring to the BioCycle, fill the system with clean water and test all equipment and alarms.
