RE: SEPTIC TANK UPGRADE PERMIT WITH WAIVERS
LEGAL: CAMPBELL POINT BLOCK 2, LOT 6
The owner has requested that we obtain a septic permit to upgrade the existing aged steel septic
tank on the above referenced lot. We propose to install a 1500-gallon HDPE tank per the
attached design to serve the existing 5-bedroom residence.
We are also currently requesting a waiver of 85’ to the proposed septic and 93’ to the existing
absorption trench. A waiver was previously granted by MOA for these encroachments and the
waiver is further warranted because of the improved material of the HDPE tank compared to the
existing steel tank, the well is located on the opposite side of the house with no chance of surface
effluent reaching the well with a surface path of over 100’+ and the adjacent wells show no
detect (ND) nitrate water analysis levels. Also, the attached recent CAN samples show nitrate
levels as undetectable. The soil strata data of the area wells demonstrate confining and filtrating
soils protecting the aquifer or water source. There have been no known issues or influence over
the past few decades from the previous existing tank and septic system in this sandy insitu soil.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
No groundwater was noted in the MOA on-site file, but if groundwater is encountered during
installation an epoxy coated steel septic tank may be required. The lot and area are served by
private water. The design will not impact any of the neighboring properties. Please contact us if

Gentlemen:
We are submitting herewith the test boring results and our comments regard-
ing soil conditions encountered at the subject site. This investigation was
performed in accordance with your request of August 18, 1975, and those pro-
cedures outlined in a letter dated July 15, 1975, by Mr. Roll Strickland of

A single test hole was put down within the Lot 6 area for the purpose of
defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary
system. 'Excavationwas accomplished with a tractor-mounted backhoe and the
test hole was extended to a total depth of 16.0 feet below ground surface.
The final log prepared for the test'hole has been included in Drawing A-01,
Ground water was not encountered in the test hole. During excavation and
the logging of the test hole, there was nO indication of gro=nd water below
the {~ediate base of the test hole which was terminated at the depth of
16 feet. Since the soil was relatively dry, we do not feel ~hat the water
table is:.located within the upper few feet below the test hole base or to a
depth 0f 20.0 feet.

A water sample revealed an arsenic concentration of 20.5 micrograms per liter
(ug/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum
contaminant level (MCL) of 10.0 ug/L for public drinking water systems. While
private wells are not subject to this regulation, EPA standards are based on existing
health information and can therefore be used to gauge the relative quality of water
from private wells. Information on arsenic is available from the On -Site Water and

Dear Mr. Wien:
Your request for a waiver of the 100 foot separation required
between the septic system and well on the subject property has
been granted. This distance has been waived to 85 feet for the
septic tank and 95 feet for the absorption trench. These are
the approximate separations between the existing well and
septic system.
This waiver is based on your assessment that hydrogeological
conditions are such that the septic system's proximity to the
well does not pose a threat of contamination to the water
supply.
This waiver applies to the existing water and wastewater
facilities only.

Waiver Request
We are requesting a waiver from the well to the septic tank of 87 feet and the
well to absorption area of 98.5 feet. The well was drilled 9/24/75 and the
sewer system was installed 10/31/75. The separation distances listed above are
measured to the standpipes. The total depth of the well is 325 feet and cased
to the bottom. Static water level is 229.9 feet. The well log shows gravelly
hard pan from 70 to 145 feet, again from 195 to 240 feet and again from 315 to
322 feet. The aquifer zone begins at 322 feet. On 9/10/87, a well flow test
was performed showing a yield of 8 GPM with 2 feet of total drawdown and
recovery in 15 seconds. The absorption area is in sandy gravel extending to 70
feet per the well log. With 75 feet of hardpan directly below this, it is very
doubtful that the effluent will cause any contamination to the aquifer zone.
Referring to the attached site plan diagram, approximately 15 feet of the
trench is within the 100 foot radius of the well. The well casing is uphill
from the sewer sytem.
Referring to the sewer asbuilt, a waiver of 75 feet was granted from the well to
the septic tank due to the small size of this lot. The actual distance from the
well to the tank cleanout is 87 feet with the house directly between the two.
Water samples taken 8/26/87 are satisfactory. We feel that these separation
distances do not pose a threat of contamination to the water supply system and
request that you grant the appropriate waivers.
