Bob owned and operated RCJ Enterprises for more than 20 years in Anchorage. He was an underground contractor specializing in sewer and water systems, road building and site preparations. In addition, Bob operated a gravel pit in the Sand Lake area during the 70's. I worked for RCJ Enterprises for many years installing underground systems in the Anchorage bowl. Presently, I work for Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility in the Operation and Maintenance Division as a Process Instrumentation Technician. The septic system is in a state of failure and needs to be replaced. A test hole was excavated on the property where the proposed septic system upgrade will be located. We are proposing that a 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached is a soil log which shows the soil profile, groundwater monitoring, and percolation test data. It is our opinion that due to the soils classification and percolation rate an application rate of 1.0 gallons per day per square foot should be used. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: <1 minute/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.0 gallon/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 450 ft2 f. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4.
