3. The engineer must notify DSD at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling
(907) 343-7904 ( 24 hours ). ( Not required for a Water Supply Permit only ).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
must be either: A. Open and closed on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.

Reft Proposed Septic System Upgrade Design for Lot 6, Block 4, Peters Creek Subdivision
To whom it may concem:
The proposed 2 bedroom house is served by a public water system and a private septic system.
The existing septic system is undocumented. The septic system was excavated in order to
document the type of septic system that serves the residence. During the excavation of the septic
tank, the tank was found to be partially crushed and not functioning. The drainfield was
excavated and found a 8 foot diameter crib with no sewer rock around the perimeter. A test hole
was excavated northeast of the existing septic system. The existing crib was found to be
encroaching upon groundwater. We are proposing that a new 1000 gallon septic tank and a five
foot wide drainfield be installed. We request that the permit be expedited due to the collapse of
the septic tank. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows:
SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and
the percolation test results. It is our opinion that the insitu soils should act as a sand filter and that
an application rate of 1.0 gallons/day/fi2 should be used.
TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: <1 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.0 gallons/day/fl2
e. Number of Bedrooms: 2
d. Design Flow: 300 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 300 ft2
f. Total Depth: 7.5 feet (max.)
g. Effective Depth: 1.5 feet
h. Width: 5 feet
i. Reduction Factor: 0.78
j. Minimum Length: 47 feet long
k. Effective absorption area = 301 ft2

SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade.
TOPOGRAPIIY: The area for the proposed septic system is mostly flat. In short, there are no
slope concerns.
LOT LINE WAIVER: We request that a 5 foot lot line waiver be granted from the east
property line to the proposed drainfield. We are unaware of any adverse effects this would have
on the adjacent property.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

Your request for a waiver of the required 10 feet horizontal separation from the
absorption field to property line has been approved. The approved separation distance is
5.0 feet.
This waiver approval applies to the existing absorption field to property line separation
only. Any future upgrade to the on-site wastewater disposal system will require all
separation distances be met or another approval from this department.
