Ref: Septic System Upgrade for Lot 7, Block A, Glacier View Heights Subdivision
To whom it may concern:
The existing 2 bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The existing septic
system consist of a 750 gallon concrete septic tank, a crib type drainfield and a deep trench type
drainfield. The homeowner is proposing to add a two bedroom addition. Two test holes were
excavated on the property in order to determine area for a septic upgrade. The system will be
designed around the 30 foot radius of test hole gl. We are proposing that a new 1250 gallon
septic tank and a dual deep trench type drainfield be installed. Waivers have been requested from
A.D.E.C. for the class "C" well located on the property to the proposed septic upgrade.
Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an
application rate of 1.2 gallons/day/fl should be used.

3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: The average topography of this property is a 15 to 25 percent slope
running from approximately northeast to southwest; in short, there are no slope concerns. The
trenches are to be installed parallel to slope contours.
5. LOT LINE WAIVER: We request that your department issue a 2 foot lot line waiver from
the southeast property line to the proposed drainfield upgrade. We are unaware of any adverse
effects this waiver would have on the adjacent property.
I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

Dear Mr. Gamess:
This is response to your June 28, 2001 letter in which you the Department to grant two separation distance waivers
for the proposed on-site single family wastewater disposal system located on Lot 7, Block A, Glacier View Heights
Subdivision. I have completed my review of the files on this property and the information that you have submitted
on this project. Although limited information on the groundwater gradient was submitted, it appears that the
submitted waiver requests are reasonable.
You requested that the Department waive the minimum horizontal separation between the on-site single family
wastewater disposal system and the Class C public water system source well located on Lot 7, Block A, Glacier
View Heights Subdivision. This waiver request increases the existing separation distances that were approved in
19g3 by the Deparanent. Therefore, in accordance with the State Wastewater Disposal Regulations [18 AAC 72],
the following waivers are being granted:
· The horizontal separation distance between the Class C public water system source well and the
proposed 1250 gallon septic tank, both located on located on Lot 7, Block A, Glacier View Heights
Subdivision has been waived from 150 feet to 110 feet.
· The horizontal separation distance between the Class C public water system source well and the
proposed drainfleld upgrade, located on Lot 7, Block A, Glacier View Heights Subdivision has been
waived from 150 feet to 120 feet.
The above noted distance was taken from your submittal. If the proposed wastewater disposal system fails or needs
to be upgraded, this waiver becomes invalid.
These waivers do not imply the granting of additional authorizations, nor obligate any federal, state, or local
regulatory body to grant required authorizations.

The length dimension is the length(in feet) of the trench or drainfield. The
depth of a trench or pit is the distance between the surface of the ground and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet). There is no set width for trenches.
The gravel depth is the minimum depth of gravel between the outfall pipe and
the bottom of the excavation(in feet).

Permit applicant has the responsibility to inform this department during the
installation inspections of any Wells adjacent to this property and the number
of residences that the well will serve.

Backfilling of any system without final inspection and approval by this department
will be subject to prosecution.
Minimum distance between a well and any on-site sewage disposal system is 100 feet
for a private well or 150 to 200 feet from a public well depending upon the type
of public well. Minimum distance from a private well to a private sewer line
is 25 feet and to a community sewer line is 75 feet. Well logs are required
and must be returned to this department within 30 days of the well completion.
Other requirements may apply. Specifications and construction diagrams are
available to insure proper installation.

Reference: Lot 7; Block A; Glacier View Heights Subdivision
This office performed an adequacy test on the waste water disposal
system serving the two bedroom residence located on the referenced
property and it was noted that the horizontal distances from the
well to the septic tank were approximately ~ feet.and from the
well to the seepage pit was approximately 120 feet. The adequacy
test resulted in a determination that it wm~-~be necessary to upgrade
the ~bsorption area. The well located on this property is cur~entl~
serving both the Zwo bedroom residence located on the referenced
lot and a small A frame cabin located on the adjoining property.
This places the well in a class C category with horizontal distance
requirements of 150 feet. Soil tests taken during the week of ? '.
April 11, 1983 and soil tests taken in August of 1971 indicate that
the soils in the area are capable of treating the waste water from
the septic ~ystem adequately to allow a horizontal separation between
the waste water treatment facility and the Water supply (well of
a 120 lineal feet in lieu of the prescribed 150 lineal feet).
It is our opinion that the combinations of the actions in the septic
tank and the processes acting on the waste water as it passes through
the soil found during the soil test should produce a water of acceptable
quality for discharge into the ground water under proper conditions
and at the recommended distance of I20 feet.
Based upon this opinion, we recommend that the State and the
Municipality grant a waiver to allow horizontal separation of well
120 feet which will allow the well to continue to serve a multiple
family. It should be noted, however, that the upgrade of the seepage
pit will have to be performed in a manner that will allow a continued
separation of 120 lineal feet from the absorption to the well at all
locations.
