Ref: Septic System Upgrade for Lot 20, Block 2, Meadow Brook Subdivision
To whom it may concern:
The existing 4 bedroom house is served by a public water system and septic system. The septic
system consists of a 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield. The existing
drainfield will not pass an adequacy test and must be upgraded. A test hole was excavated east of
the existing septic system in the area of the proposed septic upgrade. An additional confirmation
test hole will be excavated on the east end of the proposed drainfield prior to any construction.
The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radii of both of these test holes.
We are proposing that a new 1250 gallon septic tank be installed and a deep trench type
drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an
application rate of 0.45 gallons/day/ft2 should be used.
2. TRENCII DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 60 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.45 gallons/day/ft2
c. NumberofBedrooms: 4
d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 1334 ft2
f. Total Depth: 1 i feet (max.)
g. Effective Depth: 7 feet
h. Width: 2.5 feet
i. Reduction Factor: N/A
j. Minimum Length: 96 feet
k. Effective absorption area = 1344 ft~

3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPItY: The area for the proposed septic system is relatively flat. The trench is to
be installed near the base ora 5 to 10 percent slope running from north to south; in short there
are no slope concerns.
I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

The Municipality of Anchorage Development Services Department (DSD) Issues Certificates of Health Authority
Approval (HAA) based only upon the representations given in paragraph 4 by an independent professional civil
engineer registered in the State of Alaska. Certificates of Health Authority Approval are required for the transfer of
title (except between spouses) for properties served by a single-family on-site wastewater disposal and/or water
supply system. DSD also issues HAAs upon request to homeowners. Certificates of Health Authority Approval are
valid for 90 days from the date of issue for properties served by a private or Class C well and may be reissued with
new water sample results. (Certificates may be reissued for a period of up to one ye. ar with Valid water samples.)
Certificates are valid for one year for properties served by Class A or B wells or a public water system. The
Municipality of Anchorage is not responsible for errors or omissions in the professional engineer's work. '

The Municipality of Anchorage Development Sen/ices Department (DSD) Issues Certificates of Health Authority
Approval (HAA) based only upon the representations given In paragraph 4 by an independent professional civil
engineer registered in the State of Alaska. Certificates of Health Authority Approval are required for the transfer
of title (except between spouses) for properties served by a single-family on-site wastewater disposal and/or
water supply system. DSD also issues HAAs upon request to homeowners. Certificates of Health Authority
Approval are valid for 90 days from the date of issue for properties served by a pdvate or Class C well and may
be reissued with new water samples. (Certificates may be reissued for a period of up to one year with valid
water samples.) Certificates are valid for one year for properties served by Class A or B wells or a public water
system. The Municipality of Anchorage is not responsible for errors or omissions in the professional engineer's
work.
Note: Alaska Water and Wastewater Consultants, Inc. shall be paid $ at, or pdor

In conducting this evaluation, AWWC, Inc. attempted to provide a thorough,
conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with ADEC and MOA
DSD Guidelines & Regutations. The reported results described the performance of the
system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test. and separation
distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of ali wells and
septic systems depend on the loc. al soils condition, groundwater levels that may
fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system.
These conditions are outside the control of the eva/uator of the system. Satisfactory test
results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that
there ara no hidden defects or encroachments. A WWC, Inc. can therefore not provide
any warranty or future estimate of how long the system will continue to meet the
operational requirements of the ADEC or MOA DSD. The content of this report is for
the sole benefit of the owner listed above. Any reliance upon or use of this report by any
other person or party is not authorized, nor will it confer any legal dght whatsoever,

A sewer system adequacy test was performed on the system located
on -the referenced property, as you requested. The clean-out pipe
on the sept:lc tank,wa:5 repaired and the septic 'tank was pumped and
veri¢ied to have a capacity of 1000 gallons. The absorption trench
was teste¢t by a continuous flow of 550 gallons over a 24 hour .period
without any measurable rise in the water in the sump at the end of
the trench ~
It can be concluded from this test that the waste water disposal
system serving the three bedroom residence located on this property
is currently funchionfng adequately. However, this system cannot
be guaranteed against subsequent failure.
