We propose to install one shallow trench to serve the existing 5-bedroom residence with an office in the shop with no residential living area. The design is based on the 2000 test holes by Jeffrey A. Garness, PE in the MOA record file. No groundwater was observed at test hole excavation or monitoring. The integrity of the steel STEP tank will be verified at construction and if deemed necessary two 1000-gallon HDPE tanks with the baffle removed in the first tank & cleanouts between the two tanks will be installed. The second compartment of the second tank will consist of the lift station pump with dual outlets to the original and the new trench. The slopes are moderate at 0-5% at the proposed upgrade location. We are proposing that a 1500 gallon septic tank and a five foot wide drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. The soils below the organic layers are a material (primarily SW/GW soils) to a depth of 8.$ feet in TH#1. The soils below the organic layers in TH#2 are a material (primarily SM and GW soils) to a depth of 4 feet and 12.5 feet respectively. Both holes were dug to a depth of 15 feet. This investigation was performed in accordance with your request of June 29, 1976 and those procedures outlined in a letter dated July 15, 1975, by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of Environmental Quality. A single test hole was put down within lots A -5B and A -5C for the purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions for -the proposed sanitary system. Excavation was accomplished with an auger_lype drilling rig and the Test Holes 1 and 2 were extended to a total -depth of'20'feet below ground surface. The final logs prepared for the test holes have been included in Drawing A-02. The approximate location of the test holes is shown in Drawing A-01. Ground water was not encountered in either test hole while drilling. A percolation test was performed for Test Hole 2 and the results are included herein.
