between the well and septic serving the referenced property
Dear M~. Rotk,
The referenced property has a 4 bedroom house and is served by a private well and a
private septic system. The septic system was installed on August 24, 1999 and the well
was drilled September 23, 1999, by M & W Drilling (see attached well log).
During our final inspection of the onsite wastewater disposal system, we found tl~
separation distance between the edge of the cleanout pipe and the new well to be only
99.9 feet. Given the fact that the clean-out is approximately 1 foot fi.om the edge of the
trench side walls, it is reasonable to assume that the well is only about 99 feet fi'om the
edge oftbe trench.
To be conservative, we are requesting that your department waive the subject separation
distance to 98 feet between the new well and new septic leachfleld on the referenced
property. It is our opinion that the required 100 ft. separation distance between the
drainfleld and the well could be waived to a lesser distance without implementing any
health ba?ard for the following reasons:
Due tb the topography oftbe land, if effluent was ever to surface it would flow in a
northewest direction. (topo map attached) It would be physically impossible for the
effluent to flow in a southwest direction toward the subject well.

The driller's log for the referenced well (and neighboring wells) indicate that there is
160 feet of various layers of silt, sand and clay before bedrock or groundwater is
reached. These confuting layers act ns a protective barrier between the septic system
and the aquifer (well logs attached).
Based upon the facts, it appears that there is minimal risk in granting the subject waiver.

Ref: Well and Septic Design for Lot 22, Block 8, Mountain Park Estates Subdivision #I
To whom it may concem:
The proposed 4 bedroom house will be served by a private well and septic system. Two test
holes were excavated on the property. Comments regarding the proposed septic design are
summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: Attached are logs which shows the soil profile, and the percolation test results. The
soils below the organic layers are a SM/ML material to a depth of 11 feet in TH#1 and to a depth
of 18 feet in TH#2 (bottom of test hole #2). In TH#1 at 11 feet the soils transitions to a SM
material to a depth of 19 feet (bottom of test hole #1). No groundwater was encountered during
the excavation of the test holes. The percolation tests for TH#1 and TH#2 were performed
between the depth of 6.0 feet to 7.0 feet and were 24 minute/inch and 10.7 minute/inch.
2. TRENCI! DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 24& 10.7minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.6 gallons/day/fl2
c. NumberofBedrooms: 4
d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 1000 fl2
f. Total Depth: 12 feet (max.)
g. Effective Depth: 9 feet
h. Width: 2 feet
i. Reduction Factor: N/A
i. Minimum Length: 60 feet total lenglth (2 @ 30 feet long each)

3'. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPIIY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the average slope is
10 to 15 percent running from approximately east to west; in short, there are no slope concerns.
5. WELL LOCATION: The well location is to be staked by a registered land surveyor in order
to insure that the 100 well radius does not encroach upon any neighboring septic systems and to
insure adequate area for the proposed and alternate septic systems.

Conditional Health Authority Approval request
Request you issue a Conditional Health Authority Approval on the referenced
property due to winter conditions.
Alaaka Water and Wastewater Consultants, Inc. designed and inspected the installation of
a new onsite wastewater disposal system on thc referenced property. The in~allation was
performed August 24 - September 8, 1999 by Sanders and Sanders Excavating. The well
was drilled by M & W Drilling on 9/23/99. When an as-built survey was done, it was
determined the well was drilled 99 feet from the edge of the trench. Due to this being new
eonstmction, your department has said the trench must be moved outside the 100 foot
well radius.
Due to winter conditions, we request you issue a Conditional Health Authority Approval.
The end oftbe trench will he relocated outside the well radius on or before the 15th of
June, :2000.
