Test Hole and Soil Log Report for Sanitary System, Lot 30,
Block i~ Unit 1, Vallevue Subdivision
Dear Mro Smith:
We are submitting herewith the test boring results and our comments
regarding soil conditions encountered at the subject site. This investi-
gation was performed in accordance with your request of August 28~ 1973,
and those procedures outlined in a letter dated September i3~ 1971 by
Mr. Rolf Strickla~d of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of
Environmental Quality.
A single test hole was put down within the Lot 30 area for the purpose
of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary
system. Excavation was accomplished with a tractor-mounted backhoe and
the test hole was extended to a total depth of 16 feet below ground
surface~ The final log prepared for the test hole has been included in
Drawing A-01o
Ground water was not encountered in the test hole.

SUBDIVISION Water System is in compliance with the State o?
Alaska Orinking Water Regulations.
Please note that departmental records indicate that the public
uater system was installed prior to the 1978 implementation of
the Alaska Brinking Water Plan Review regulations. No as-built
plans have been reviewed or approved by the department, nor are
any necessary. Since the system has submitted acceptable water
samples on a regular basis and received a satisfactory sanitary
survey evaluation by the department, the system is acceptable
under the standards in effect at the time of installation. An
official "Certificate to Operate" may be issued upon receiving a
complete set of as-built plans. Any expansion of the water
system after 1978 will require plan review and the issuance of a
"Certificate of Operation" permit.

TEST PROCEDURE: SYSTEM WAS INSPECTED AND MEASURED. TANK WAS FOUND
WITH 4 FEET OF COVER AND LIQUID DEPTH OF 38
INCHES. AREA SHOWN ON AS-BUILT AS BEING WHERE CRIB IS WAS FOUND
TO BE IN PAVED DRIVE. PAVEMENT WAS BROKEN, WITH HEAVES AND
SETTLEMENTS. SURFACE WAS DAMP WITH MOISTURE IN THE SUB SOIL. NO
STAND PIPE WAS EVIDENT. A CAST IRON STAND PIPE WAS FOUND 10 FEET
FROM THE SOUTH-EAST PROPERTY LINE. THIS PIPE WAS 11.5 DEEP AND
DRY. ASSUMING THIS WAS THE CRIB 220 GALLONS WAS ADDED. NO WATER
RISE WAS NOTED IN THE TANK, NO WATER REMAINED IN THE CRIB.
350 GALLONS OF WATER WAS THEN ADDED TO TANK. NO WATER SHOWED U~
IN THE CRIB, NOR COULD WATER BE HEARD ENTERING THE CRIB. THE
WATER LEVEL IN THE TANK ROSE 12 INCHES. AFTER STOPPING WATER
FLOW, THE WATER LEVEL IN TANK DROPPED 3 INCHES IN 15 MINUTES.
ON SEPTEMBER 6, 1986 THE TANK AND THE CRIB WAS EXCAVATED. IT WAS
FOUND THAT THE CRIB IS A CONCRETE RING CRIB, 6.5 FEET DEEP AND
FOUR FEET IN DIAMETER. THE CRIB WAS BACKFILLED WITH ROCK 6.5 FEET
DEEP AND 16 FEET WIDE, RESULTING IN AN ABSORPTIVE CONTACT AREA OF
416 FEET. A PERCOLATION TEST RUN THIS DATE SHOWED THE SOIL TO
HAVE A PERC RATE OF 130.
THIS CRIB HAD BEEN TEE'D INTO THE LINE RUNNING TO THE ORIGINAL
CRIB.THE TEE WAS SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE STRAIGHT RUN,
RESULTING IN NO FLOW INTO THE NEWER CRIB. THIS CONNECTION WAS NOW
BROKEN AND A LONG SWEEP INSTALLED, CAUSING ALL FLOW TO ENTER THE
NEWER CRIB.

THIS SYSTEM MEETS THE CODE REQUIREMENTS OF
THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE.
The operational life of all septic systems depends on the local
soil conditions, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the
year, and the water usage of the family being served by the
system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator
of this septic system. We can therefore not give any estimate of
how long the system will continue to meet the operational requi-
rements of the Municipality and State.
