Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Subject: Undocumented System - Voyles Block 1, Lot 3B Per your instructions, we have investigated the subject property's undocumented system and it appears as if it was constructed per the 2000 S&S Engineering design and Municipality of Anchorage permit #SW000132. The owners and record engineer are deceased and every attempt was taken to gather any available information on the on-site systems. Field measurements were taken and locatable standpipes noted. The standpipes were at or below grade. One of the post-tank cleanouts and the foundation cleanout were not found, but we assume they are under grade. However, there is a foundation cleanout in the basement. Please see attached photos. No well log could be found. The well had recent work done on it in December 2010 (a new pitless and well pump was installed); please see attached Pump Log from Jim Sullivan. Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Subject: Septic Driveway Waiver - Voyles Block 1, Lot 3B Per your inspection report comments regarding the existing septic system for the subject lot, we respectfully request that a waiver be granted for the approximately 14.5' portion of the leachfield that exists in the airplane hanger's driveway. This septic system has operated without any known issues for over 10 years. The portion in the driveway does have insulation over the end of the field, is assumed will not be normally used during winter months and will have snow cover and a cast iron riser cover in the driveway to protect the field from potential freeze and damage to the end cleanout. Also, the majority of the field cover is fairly deep (3.33' - 5.27'). The total length of the drainfield is 77' long--5' longer than required for the 3- bedroom residence. In the recent adequacy test, the system absorbed 643 gallons in one day or 8.35 gallons per lateral foot. Discounting that 14.5' portion in the drive, the remaining 62.5' of trench would absorb 522 gallons per day--which is more than required for the 3-bedroom residence. The system is in plain view in the lawn and any possible overflow would be easily visible. We do not expect there to be any adverse effect on this system or adjacent lots by the existence of a portion of the leachfield in the driveway and respectfully request the waiver be granted. The assessment of the condition of the well and septic applies only to the conditions as of the day tested. The fiow and absorption rates may change due to subsurface conditions that may not be observed from the surface, changes inland use, local soil characteristics, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year and the water usage of the family being served by the system. The operational life of all well and septic systems are subject to these various and dynamic characteristics and are outside the control of the evaluator of the well and septic system.
