Septic system design Dear On-Site Services Engineer: The owner of the above lot had a absorption trench that is in failure, so we are submitting this permit application for the reconstruction of the absorption field. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the existing well and septic location. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot slopes toward the west slightly. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of the primary site. Contours are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the septic tank. Please refer to the attached test hole logs, soils lab analysis, plan and profile pages for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties. Unfortunately, during the last inspection of their Biocycle septic system, they discovered that the lid of the fiberglass septic tank had cracked, likely during the earthquake in November of 2018. This cracked lid does allow some surface runoff to enter the tank,but does not affect the working of the system or allow for effluent to leak out(see attached pictures). Biocycle has examined this tank and is confident of the repair. The earthquake caused similar cracking in the lids of several other tanks in town. They are able to expose the top of the tank and use a fiberglass patching substance to seal it again. However,they are unable to do this during the freezing weather, as the patch needs to cure in warmer temperatures. Biocycle has given us an estimate of the repair cost,including the cost for the contractor to expose the top of the tank.We are requesting that a conditional COSA be issued,with an amount of money equal to 200%of that bid placed in escrow to guarantee the tank repair when the weather is warm enough. Park Estates Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska Dear Mr. Sorensen: At your request of May 29, 1978, we conducted a subsurface soils investi- gation at the proposed location of the sanitary sewer system on the subject lot. The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This investigation, which was accomplished on June 2, 1978, consisted of a test hole drilled to a depth of 20 feet below the existing ground surface. The test hole was sited according to your instructions and its location is shown in attached Drawing A-01. Drilling was accomplished with a rotary drill rig using continuous flight solid-stem auger with an outside diameter of 6 inches. A sample was taken at the depth shown on the soils log in Drawing A-01. The sample will be held in storage at our lab for approxi- mately six months. In addition, all material brought to the surface by the augers was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the drilling site is generally gently-sloping. At the time of the investigation the site had original vegetation consisting of spruce and grasses. The top of the test hole was located at original ground sur- face. The soils encountered in the bore hole are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-01. This log displays specific conditions encountered at the test location. However, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot without any apparent surficial evidence of the change. Groundwater was encountered in the test hole at a depth of 17 feet. Bedrock was not encountered. At the time the hole was drilled seasonal frost was not pre- sent. Permafrost was not encountered. A percolation test was performed within the bore hole at the depth shown in the attached Table 1. Ail depths were measured from the top of the hole. The data in Table 1 show average infiltration from the depths indicated to the bottom of the hole. The measured percolation rate was 12.5 minutes per inch.
