The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protec- tion. This investigation, which was accomplished on September 11, 1978, consisted of a test hole drilled to a depth of 20 feet below the existing ground sur- face. The test hole location is shown in attached Drawing A-01. Drilling was accomplished with a rotary drill rig using continuous flight hollow -stem auger with an outside diameter of 6 inches. A Sample was taken at the depths shown on the soils Log in Drawing A-01. The sample will be held in storage at our lab for approximately six months. In addition, all material brought to the surface by the augers was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the drilling site is generally horizontal. At the time of the i-nvestigation the site had been stripped and was grown up in clover. The top of the test hole was located at original ground surface. The soils encountered in the bore hole are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-01. This log displays specific conditions encountered at the test location. However, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot without any apparent surficial evidence of the change. Groundwater was not encountered. Bedrock was not encountered. At the time the hole was drilled seasonal frost was not present and permafrost was not encountered. A percolation test was performed within the bore hole at the depth shown in the attached Table 1. All depths were measured from the top of the hole. The data in Table 1 show average infiltration from the depths indicated to the bottom of the hole. August 7, 1978 R&M No. 851578 Showcase Realty 1506 W. 36th Avenue Anchorage, Alaska 99503 Attention: Pat Burbridge; Robert Allen Property Re: Adequacy Test on Existing Sanitary Sewer System; Lot 41, Section 15, R3W, T12N, S.M., Alaska Dear Ms. Burbridge: Per your request of July 28, 1978, we conducted a test of the sanitary sewer system on the above described property. No records of the existing system were on file at the Municipality of Anchorage. From the reports of the owner, Mr. Allen; and the realtor, Ms. Burbridge there did no_t__aRpear_to be an existing septic tank. There is an existing seepage pit and possibly a drainfeld. Due to insufficient informa- tion regarding the system, a test on the seepage pit was performed. During the test the liquid level in the seepage pit was measured before and after the addition of 1000 gallons of water. The total depth of the crib was 12.0 feet. All liquid levels were measured below the top of the standpipe and are shown in the following table: - Initial Water. Second 24 hour Total Reading Added Reading Reading Drop (gallons) _ 11.5' 1000 10.5' 10.4' 0.1' The meter used during the test was a Neptune 1�" standard water meter which had previously been calibrated by R&M Consultants, Inc. The water level rose 12 inches with the addition of 1000 gallons of water, indicating a capacity of 83.4 gallons per inch. Twenty-four hours later the liquid level was again measured and found to be 10.4 feet. It had dropped 0.1 feet or 1.2 inches. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of 100 gallons per day for the surrounding soils. If the 3 bedroom residence on the property is to house 6 people, the average load on the system can be expected to be 450 gallons per day. We can therefore conclude that the system is not disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a 3 bedroom residence.
