RE: STEP UPGRADE PERMIT
LEGAL: EAGLE RIVER VALLEY RANCHETTES LOT 27A
The owner has requested that we obtain a septic permit to upgrade the existing aged steel septic
STEP tank on the above referenced lot. We propose to install a 1500-gallon steel tank per the
attached design to serve the existing 4-bedroom residence. Existing MOA soils show
groundwater at -5 on May 1st and the MOA record drawings show no ballast for the existing
STEP. Verification will be made on site and if need be the steel STEP will be anchored with 2
3,800 pound concrete blocks that assume water at grade and 2 burial soil depth. The lot and area
are served by public water. The design will not impact any of the neighboring properties. Please

Dear Mr. Morris:
The enclosed site plan is submitted for issuance of on-site septic
upgrade permit for a 4 bedroom home on the above referenced lot.
The plan as shown will require approval of 5' separation distance to lot
line from bed. The neighbors septic system should not be affected as
it is > 30' distant. The bed will have to be 24'x 31' due to lot size
limitations. We realize that this is not a standard length to width
ratio and we do not expect that it will cause a waste disposal problem.
The use of the bed design requires a lift station. The lift station
will be a standard preapproved combination septic tank\lift station
manufactured by Anchorage Tank. The installation -of this septic system
will be in accordance with current Municipal guidelines. The elevated
bed design will require an additional 4'of mounded cover as a finished
grade.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR ON-SITE SEPTIC SYSTEM
LEGAL: Lot 27A, Eagle River Valley Ranchettes
A. GENERAL
1. The drawing and or site plan shall be a part of this specification.
2. All materials and workmanship shall meet the requirements of
the Anchorage Department of Health and State D.E.C..
3. All soil tests are advisory to the design and are to be
verified or modified in the field by the engineer.
4 All excavations and depths are advisory and are to be verified or
modified in the field by the contractor to meet MOA, D.E.0 require-
ments.
5. It is the responsibility of the owner to obtain all necessary
permits or easements and to locate any adjacent multi -family wells.
6. It is always recommended that a surveyor locate the nearest lot line
position and the location of any easements.
B. DRAINFIELD
1. The bottom of the trench shall be level, plus or minus 1.5".
2. The total depth of the excavation is not to exceed 1', if the ground
slope makes it impossible to maintain this depth the bed should be
stepped with the high end recieving the lift station outflow.
3. The lift station is to be a Municipal,p reapproved package lift

4. Lift station electrical installation shall meet Anchorage code re-
quirements, NEMA 4.
5. The pressure sewer line shall be 2" diameter, be buried to a depth
of 5' from the lift station to the bed area and be secured against
thrust forces.
6. The lift station pump should be sized to deliver 10 gpm at 15 feet of
head.
7. The high level alarm shall be located inside the house.
8. Soil or combination of soil and extruded board insulation to a depth
of 4' or equivalent is to be placed over the trench.
9. The area over the trench is to be finished graded to prevent ponding
of surface water runoff.
10. The sides of the mounded cover shall be of impermiable material
and shall be planted with grass cover.
11. The septic tank and leachfield must not be closer than 100 feet to
any existing private well, 150' to any Class "C" well, or 200 feet
to any community well.

Dear Mrs. Holland:
At your request of March 28, 1978, we conducted a test of the septic
system on the above described property.
During the test the liquid level in the septic tank was monitored as
water was added to the system. The measurements are summarized in the
following table:
The meter used during the test was a Rockwell 5/8'' standard water meter
which had previously been calibrated by R&M Consultants, Inc.
If the 3 bedroom residence on the property is to house 6 people, the
average load on the system can be expected to be 450 gallons per day or
.31 gallons per minute. During the test, the system accepted 150 gallons
in 62 minutes. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of
approximately 2.4 gallons per minute at the time of the test.

Because the house on the lot is occupied, we assume that the leach field
was at its normal degree of saturation. We can therefore conclude that
the system is disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a 3 bedroom
residence.
