The approved separation distance is 45 feet. The approved separation distance of a private well to public sewer manhole is 49 feet. This waiver approval applies to the existing well and public sewer line only. Any future upgrade will require all separation distances be met or another approval from this department. Anchorage, Alaska 99501 Subject: REQUEST FOR WAIVER OF SEPARATION DISTANCES FOR PRIVATE WELL TO PUBLIC SEWER LINE AND SEWER MANHOLE LOT 12, BLOCK 2, DAWN VILLAGE AHFC Gent lemen; We are submitting a request for waivers distances stated in Title 18, Alaska Chapter 80.020. from the separation Administrative Code, During an Health Authority Inspection on May 18, 1988~is was discovered that the distances between the well and the public sewer line and manhole were 45 and 49 respectively. At the time of well installation the required distances were 50 feet. By going through DEC's procedure of analyzing the potential for contamination I arrived at the following points. Ground Water Soil Sorbtion Permeability Gradient Separation (at 80 ft. ) . 6.0 ( Tight Sand ) 2.5 (and and Clay ) 4.5 ( 0 ) 2.0 (45) 1.0 Total 16.0 Conclusion: Chemical contamination possible but unlikely. Sewer line is cast iron pipe with water tight couplings. Line is 8-inch. DEC have given waivers for other properties in. Dawn facing identical separation distances. There is a 16-inch sewer'line located along the back lot line. The total distance between this line and the 8-inch located in Teshlar Circle is 180 feet. Well is 45 feet distance from public sewer line and 48 feet away from sanitary sewer manhole. Minimum required distances at the time of well installation were· 50 feet. A waiver must be applied for. There is no location on lot were a well can be installed meeting the separation distances required. There is a sewer line both in front ,and in back of lot. WELL YIELD FROM WELL LOG: PUMP YIELD FROM TEST: DATE OF INSPECTION: 12 gallons per minute 7 gallons per minute · May 18, 1988 TEST PROCEDURE: Well was"pumped at a constant rate while the drawdown was monitored with an acoustic probe. At t~e' beginning of the test water level was found.at 28 feet below top of casing. At a pumping rate of 7 gallons per minute the water level dropped to 44 feet after 65 minutes of pdmping. Well recovered to 35 feet in five minutes. A 56% recovery in 5 minutes. A total of 500 gallons were pumped. - TEST FOR E.COLI AND TOTAL NITROGEN~' Water was tested for E.Coli and total nitrates on E.Coli 0. Total Nitrates. ND (None Detected) Max. allowable Total Nitrates 10mg/1. TEST RESULTS: This well meet~ the requirements of the Municipality of Anchorage, with the. exception of the'diStance to sewer line and 'manhole. THIS WELL WILL PRODUCE MORE THAN 3 GALLONS PER MINUTE FOR THAN FOUR HOURS MORE The Municipal requirement for well flow is 150 gallons of water per bedroom per day. This well exceed this requirement. The assessment of the condition of the well applies only to the conditions as of the day tested. The flow rate may chan~e due to subsurface conditions that may not be observed from the surface, and changes in the land use and other factors that may impact the aquifer feeding the well.
