During installation, the near end of the trench was uncovered and a cleanout added. Only the top portion of the trench was exposed. However, the location of the trench meant that it was not possible with field conditions to maintain a 5' separation from the tank to the trench. In addition, the final survey revealed that the trench was within 10' of the northern property line. There is no feasible way to achieve 10' separation from the lot line for the existing trench. Fortunately, this does not affect the ROW in any way nor does it preclude maintenance from being done on this trench. In addition, while the contractor tried to keep as much separation as possible to the new tank location, they could not get 5' separation. During installation the sidewalls of the trench were not exposed and the sewer rock was not disturbed. There was no effluent noted entering the tank hole by either the contractor or Forge inspectors. As with the separation to the property line, this reduced separation does not cause maintenance problems, and the effluent reaching the tank via subsurface flow will not significantly inhibit treatment. We would like to request that waivers be issued for a 3.9' separation from the tank to the leach field, and a 7.5' separation from the field to the property line. The owners requested a larger tank for more capacity, so a 1500-gallon tank is called out in this design. Additionally, the existing field from 2013 has reached a failure point and is no longer adequately absorbing liquid. While digging a test hole for a replacement system in June 2022, the existing trench from 1978 was located and found to be completely dry and appeared to be intact. Due to the lack of space available for a new septic trench, we are proposing tying into this trench with a diverter valve. The current orientation of the trench from 1978 is unknown and will be verified at construction. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the existing well, existing septic location and proposed tank site. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new septic tank will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells and surface water, and more than 5’ away from the septic trench. Please refer to the attached plan page for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties. The proposed systems will serve an existing three (3) bedroom house. Currently the lot is developed. The existing deep trench drain filed will be removed and replaced. The integrity of the existing 1000g septic tank will be verified. This lot is served by a private well that is located over 100 feet from this system. The surrounding lots are also served by private wells. There are no wells within 100 feet of this system. 1. Soils. A single test hole was excavated by Roger J. Schafer in April of 1992, and the ground water monitored for seven days. Groundwater was not encountered the test hole monitor tube after the seven day monitoring period. Bedrock was not encountered in the test hole. It is my opinion, based on the results of the percolation tests and overall soils appearance; an application rate of 0.6 gallons/day/square feet should be used for conventional wastewater system. 2. Soil Absorption System Design. a. See Sheet 2 of the design package 3. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank and drain field. The proposed drain field upgrade will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches. 4. Topography: The topography slopes approximately from northwest to southeast at approximately 4%- 5% in the area of the proposed drain field, an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the orientation of the drain field. The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This investigation, which was accomplished on August 22,'1978, consisted of a test hole excavated to a depth of 12 feet below the existing ground'surface. The test hole was sited according to your instructions and its location is shown in attached Drawing A-01. Excavation was accomplished with a backhoe. A sample was taken at the depths shown on the soils log in Drawing A-01. The sample will be held in storage at our lab for approximately six months. In addition, all material excavated was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the excavation site is generally horizontal. At the time of the investigation the site had birch and cottonwood and had been partially stripped. The top of the test hole was located at original ground surface. The soils encountered in the excavation are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-01. This log displays specific conditions encountered at the test location. However, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot without any apparent surficial evidence of the change. Groundwater and bedrock were not encountered.' At the time the hole was excavated seasonal frost was not present and permafrost was not encountered. Based on the visual classification of the soil and the requirements set forth by the Municipality of Anchorage, a percolation test was not necessary within the test hole on the subject lot.
