Subject: Talus West Sub #2, Block 6 Lot 1 – Passage Way
Septic tank replacement
Dear On-Site Services Engineer:
The owner of the above lot has an existing 4-bedroom S.T.E.P. tank that is nearing the end of its
30-year life expectancy. Therefore, we are submitting this permit application for its replacement.
Wells on this lot and adjacent lots are shown on the design. No septic system on this lot or adjacent
lots will have any effect on the proposed S.T.E.P. tank location. The tank will be greater than 10’
away from the building’s foundation and 5’ away from the existing septic bed. The existing tank
will be pumped and decommissioned per U.P.C.
Please refer to the attached plan for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no
adverse impacts to adjacent properties.

Ref: Proposed Septic System Upgrade for Talus West #2; Block 6, Lot 1
To whom it may concern:
The existing 4 bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The drainfield
(serving 7 people) is surcharged and needs to be upgraded. We are proposing to utilize the
existing 1500 gallon S.T.E.P. tank and re-build the existing drainfield. We are proposing to
excavate out all contaminated material, import/place MOA approved sand, and re-build the
drainfield to an elevation 0.1 feet higher than it currently is. Two inch insulation over the
drainfield will be required. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached 1992 soil log by Roger Shafer, P.E., which shows the soil
classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: After the house was purchased in 2012 a shed and parking area
was constructed over the drainfield. The shed will be moved and drainfield site will be blocked
off so that cars will not be able to park over it. The drainfield will be constructed to the
dimensions as shown on the 1993 inspection report by Robert A. Schaffer, P.E. The only
change will be pipe sizing. The header will be 1.5" SCH-40 (ASTM D2665) PVC, and laterals
shall be 1.25" PVC. All orifices shall be 3 1/16".
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography drawing, the average
topography around the proposed drainfield is flat, and the slope below is roughly 15%.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

In conducting this evaluation, GEG, UD. attempted to provide a thorough,
conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with ADEC and MOA
DSD Gulderines 8 Regulations. The reported results described the performance of the
system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation
distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and
septic systems depend on the local soils condition, groundwater levels that may
fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system.
These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of the system. Satisfactory test
results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that
there are no hidden defects or encroachments. GEG, LTD. can therefore not provide
any warranty or future estimate of how long the system will continue to meet the
operational requirements of the ADEC or MOA DSD. The content of this report is for
the sole benefit of the owner listed above. Any reliance upon or use of this report by any

OF WATER. SUMP WAS 9 FEET DEEP WITH 87 INCHES OF LIQUID.
180 GALLONS OF WATER WAS ADDED TO THE CLEANOUT AT A CONSTANT RATE
OF 5 GALLONS PER MINUTE WHILE THE WATER LEVELS IN TANK AND SUMP
WERE MONITORED. THE LEVEL IN THE SUMP ROSE 35.5 INCHES.
TEST RESULT: THE INSPECTION PRIOR TO TEST REVEALED THAT THE
SYSTEM WAS SURCHARGED AND NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT THE DESIGN FLOW.
ALSO THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED FOR THREE BEDROOMS, WHILE THE
RESIDENCE HAS FIVE. THE SYSTEM MUST BE UPGRADED.
The operational life of all septic systems depends on the local
soil conditions, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the
year, and the water usage of the family being served by the
system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator
of this septic system.
