The tank could not be located differently to be able to maintain elevations from the house to the tank and existing lift station. Due to this, the tank is approximately 90' to the referenced property's well. We respectfully request modification of the existing waiver to 89'. The waiver is justified with a new improved tank (HDPE), the tank is on the opposite of the house and as outlined previously with the original waiver. Please contact us if you have any questions. We propose to install a 1250 -gallon HDPE tank to serve the existing 4 -bedroom residence. The lot and area are served by private water as shown on the design. As outlined beforco, the existing septic system that was installed in 1976, did not pass an adequacy test and needed to be replaced in order to obtain a Municipal Health Certificate. tJe performed 5 percolation tests on this property, but were not ,_able to find an area that met the minimum percolation requirement needed for- the replacement system. Lased an our soil investiga- tion, a holding tank: seamed to be the only acceptable solution. This conclusion is contrary to the fact that the existing system performed satisfactory for 17 years, and that the system on Lot 5, installed in 1970, still operates without any evidence of problems. The system on lot 7 was; installed i n 1976, and upgrad- ed in 19E121. This upgrade was the result of a substantial under design of the original system. None of the systems on Lots 5 and 7 have been tested, so the actual performance of the are not known. Holding tanks are considered undesirable both by the house owner and the Municipality. if any other alternative exist, the Municipality would prefer that alternative. Lased on the per- formance of the existing systems on Lots 5,6,and 7, 1 have sug- gested an alternative that may perform satieafactory. My proposal consists of installing a second leach trench, as deep and as long as was physical possible. This inspection revealed a nitrate concentration of 5.56 milligrams per liter (mg/L) was reported for the property's well water sample. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10.0 mg/L for public drinking water systems. While private wells are not subject to this regulation, EPA standards are based on existing health information and can therefore be used to gauge the relative quality of water from private wells. Health & Human Services December 3, 1997 We are submitting an HAA for this property for refinancing. The property was developed in 1976 with an upgrade performed in 1993. This upgrade consisted of a 100 feet long trench with 8 feet of sewer rock. This trench was approved and installed in spite of several perc tests that showed that the soil was unsuitable. The justification for the approval was that the existing system had worked for 17 years and that the surrounding properties had been developed with no known soil problems. During the next couple of years I occasionally checked the water level in the trench monitor. The most water I observed was 8 inches two years after installation. On 11/25/97 I observed 14.5 inches of water in the monitor. The residence had been switched over to the original system on November 10, 1997. The liquid depth in the crib was 14 inches. An adequacy test was run on both the crib and the trench. The trench was able to absorb approximately 300 gallons per day, while the rate for the crib was found to be 570 gallons. These measurements show that both the trench and the crib are working at a satisfactory level. As outlined before, the existing septic system that was installed in 1976, did not pass an adeq!.racy test and needed to be replaced in order to obtain a Municipal Health Certificate. We performed 5 pearc.olaticin tests on this property, but were not able to find an area that. met the minimum percolation requirement needed for• the r•eeplacernr�nl system. Pasted on our soil investiga- tion, a holding tank- seemed to Lair t.hre only acceptable solution. This conclusion is contrary to the fact: that the existing system performed satisfactory for 17 years, and that the system on Lot 5, installed in 1970, still operates without any evidence of problems. The system on lot 7 was installed in 1976, and upgrad- ed in 1982. This upgrade was the result of a substantial under design of the original system. None of the systems on Lots 5 and 7 have been tested, sa the actual performance of the are not known. Holding tanks are considered undesirable both by the house owner and the Municipality. If any other alternative exist, the Municipality would prefer that alternative. Erased on the per- formance of the existing systems on Lots 5,6,and 7, I have sug- gested an alternative that may perform satisfactory. My proposal consists of installing a second leach trench, as deep and as long as was physical possible. We do not have soil date that confirm that the soil in this trench meet the minimum re - Cl Llirernents, b u f in the worst case this trench should perform satisfactory for 3 or A. years. If my concept is, wrong, and both trenches plug up, there are still a couple of ways to go. The most severe will be to insti- gate periodic pumping. With a holding tante, you can expect pumping every 3 to 4 weetcs. With these two trenches, a pumping frequency of 2 to 3 months may be possible.
