Box 196650, Anchorage, Ak 99519-6650 (907)343-7904 Ref: Proposed Septic Upgrade for Northwoods S/D #2; Lot 2, Block 4, To whom it may concern: The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a public water system and a private septic system. The property owners are proposing to add an addition onto the house and remodel the house to a 4 bedroom residence. Because of the location of the addition and the addition of another bedroom, the existing drainfield will be too close to the foundation and undersized. Based upon this information, we are proposing the entire septic system be upgraded. Two test holes were excavated on the property and the proposed drainfield and alternate site will be designed around the 30 foot radii of these test holes. We are proposing that a new 1250 gallon septic tank and a shallow 5 -wide trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. A percolation test was performed between 4 to 4.5 feet and had a percolation rate of I minute/inch which equates to a 1.2 application rate. A second percolation test was performed between 6.5 to 7.0 feet and had a percolation rate of 7.5 minute/inch which equates to a 0.8 application rate. Since the proposed drainfield is designed between the two different application rates, we are proposing to use an average application rate of 0.9 gpd/sq.ft. 2. DRAI\FIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications. 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached design drawing, the area for the proposed drainfield is generally flat. There is a slope greater than 25 percent approximately 60 to 65 feet from the test holes.
