Per the homeowners request the septic system is to be upgraded from 2 bedrooms to 3 bedrooms. The existing septic system consists of a 1250 gallon septic tank and a crib type drainfield. A test hole was excavated southwest of the existing septic system. The drainfield will be designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. We are proposing that a new 1000 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 2.1 minutes/inch b. Proposed Application Rate: 1.0 gallons/day/f2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 3 d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 450 ft f. Total Depth: 9 feet (max.) g. Effective Depth: 6 h. Width: 2.5 feet i. Reduction Factor: N/A j. Minimum Length: 37.5 feet long k Effective absorption area = 450 ftZ 3. TOPOGRAPHY: The area for the proposed drainfields is a 5-10 percent slope running approximately northwest/wcst to southeast/east; in short, there are no slope concerns. This investigation was performed in accordance with your request of September 3, 1974, and those procedures outlined in a letter dated September 13, 1971 by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Department of Environmental Quality. A single test hole was put down within the Lot 5 area for the purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed sanitary system. Excavation was accomplished with a tractor -mounted backhoe and the test hole was extended to a total depth of 13.5 feet below ground surface. The final log prepared for the test hole has been included in Drawing A-01. Ground water was not encountered in the test hole. We appreciate being given this opportunity to be of service to you.
