Soils Report
Lot 19A, Woebegon Subdivision
Section 5, T15N, R1W, S.M.
ADDRESS
Chugial~ AK
Prepared for Gale Daw
This report is based on a visual inspection of the site that included inspection
of several exposed cut banks on and adjacent to the property and reference to the
Coastal Resource Atlas surticial geology. There were no bore holes or test pits
made for this investigation.
Lot 19A lies between the Alaska Railroad and Knik Arm just to the northeast
of the Birchwood AirporL Gentle sloping topography, well-drained soils and
abundant tree cover characterize the area.
The Anchorage Coastal Resource Atlas
identifies the surficial geology of Lot 19A as a
coarse-grained alluvial fan deposit. It describes the
soils as chiefly gravel and sand with small amounts
of silt and clay present. The extent and thickness
of these alluvial fan deposits make them suitable for
construction materials and ground-water
development. Foundation conditions and drainage
are very good in these soils.
An on-site inspection confirmed the soils are
predominately gravels and sands. These types of
soils were exposed in roadside cuts in the area. A
shallow hole had been dug on the site and gravels
(up to 4") and sands with some silts were exposed.
There is a thin mantel of organics and top soil on
the surface. The general area is covered with fairly
dense stands of spruce and birch. The ground
slopes down to the north and drainage is good.
