In addition, the sewer service line was found to be exiting the house at over 10 feet below grade. Given these findings in the field we are reducing the size of the drainfield, and installing a pump station in the crawlspace. The revised design is summarized as follows. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: a. GENERAL: The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The septic system is in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. A test hole was excavated on the property to confirm soil and groundwater conditions below the existing bed. We are proposing to rebuild the existing bed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. Due to the limited area available we are proposing to use an Advantex treatment system which will allow for a reduced sized drainfield. 2. SOILS: See the attached log, which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. 3. DRAINFIELD APPLICATION RATE: The allowable application rate for the Advantex system effluent is 4.0 GPD/FT2 for the ML layer. In short, there are no slope concerns. 8. LOT LINE WAIVER: We request a 1 foot lot line waiver to the proposed drainfield. Dear Mr. Bay: At the request of Mr. Roger Malcolm of Marston Real Estate on march 9, 1979, I conducted a soils investigation to determine the site , and adequacy of the subsurface soils, to permit construction of an on site sanitary sewer system. This investigation, which was accomplished on march 12, 1979, consisted of the inspection of soils removed during the drilling of three, 6 inch.diameter test holes. Test Hole No. 1 was drilled to a total depth of 5.0 feet, Test Hole No. 2 was drilled to a depth of 6.0 feet, and Test Hole No. 3 was drilled to a total depth of 23.0 feet. The soils encountered are graphically shown on the accompanying test hole boring logs. A water table was encountered in each of the three test holes. Test Hole No. 1 had a water table at 2.0 feet, Test Hole No. 2 at 4.5 feet and Test Hole No. 3 at 14.5 feet. The topography of the subject lot consists of an East West trending low valley that slopes at a moderate grade in a westerly direction. Maximum relief on the lot is approximately 30 feet. The downslope from the southern lot line to the center of the lot in a northerly direction has approximately a 35 to 40 per cent grade. Vegetation present on the subject lot consists of scattered spruce trees to 40 feet tall, with an occasional birch, some alders and willows to 8 feet tall, and a low ground cover of mosses and grasses. At the time the soils investigation was performed a snow cover of 2 to 3 feet in depth was present. No lot corners could be located with accuracy because of the buried stakes or monuments if they even exist at all. An accompanying sketch shows the subject lot with the approximate locations of the test holes in relation to the property lines. It is unfortunate that a shallow water table was found in each of the three test holes. In Test Hole No. 3 the water table was encountered at 14.5 feet, but the test hole is too close to the lot line and the topography is such that if it were moved to the north the abrupt drop in surface elevation would probably result in the water table being at too shallow of a depth to allow construction of an on site sewage disposal system. • (; _ ii r�:( it , • f'� �iiu �; r)lo_ly' • ! �i ,I� r, • f_lr r,ui, .n' MICHAEL B. Then determine the exact boundaries of your property by either locating the possibly existing survey stakes, or having a lot survey done. After this is done you can then probe possible site locations for the depth to the water table using a small hand auger or other tool (probe to at least a 10 foot depth). If you encounter a likely spot, then have a standard soils investigation performed at this location. This will increase the probability of the test turning out successfully and minimize your expenses. I appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you. The reported results described the performance of the system under the conditions encountered at the time of the test, and separation distances measured to readily identirable features. The operational life of all wells and septic systems depend on the local soils condition, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system. These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of the system. Satisfactory test results do not guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments.
