2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska Wastewater
Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80).
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer must notify the Development Services
Department at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24 hours).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.
Special Provisions: The disposal field is not entirely within the 30 foot radius of a percolation test
and is not 6 feet above known impermeable soil. An additional test hole and percolation test shall
be made to verify these two items. If the soil and/or percolation test requires a design change,
construction shall stop until an approved change order is issued. The soils log and percolation
test results shall be submitted with the inspection report.

Septic System Design and Permit Application
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear Onsite Services Engineer:
The owner of Lot 21C, Eagle River Valley Ranchettes Subdivision intends to construct a
new garage on the lot. The garage will be placed over the existing septic tank and
absorption system. We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the relocation of
the septic system to accommodate the three-bedroom home on the lot. The attached
Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the
existing and proposed septic system. The existing Septic Tank and absorption pit will
be pumped, crushed, backfilled and properly compacted. The lot is currently served by
the. Municipal water system and no conflicts exist between the proposed septic system
and the systems on this or adjacent lots. Drainage arrows are shown indicating the
current drainage patterns. The drainage patterns will be maintained after construction.
The test holes recently placed on the lot indicated clean sand with some silt (GM/GP) at
a depth of 9' below the surface. The percolation rate was determined to be 9 minutes
per inch. We have designed the new trench to be within the 30' radius of the test hole
with an application rate of .8 gallons per day per square foot. We are proposing to
place a 57' long by 5' wide absorption trench with a 4' effective depth. The total depth
of the trench will be 14.5'. The test hole was placed to a depth of 19' and has remained
dry since construction. No bedrock is known to exist in the subdivision or in the area of
the new absorption trench. The test hole will be deepened prior to construction to verify
the absence of bedrock. The test hole report will be submitted with the as built of the
system. In addition, a second percolation test will be completed to verify the
consistency of the soils in the area.

trench at a grade of 7% to 9%. The trench will be placed parallel to the contours of the
ground as much as possible and in conformance with design criteria, but may not be
entirely parallel. The depth of the trench will insure the effective area remains in the
design absorption layer. A minimum of 10' will be maintained between all components
of the septic system and the existing water service. Relocation of the service may be
necessary.
If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements
apply:
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells
in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing
septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve
space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area.
The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage
patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained.

The existing 3 bedroom house is currently served by community water and a private septic
system. The existing septic has collapsed and needs to be upgraded. We are proposing that the
existing 1000 gallon septic tank be replace with a new 1000 gallon septic tank.

A sewer system adequacy testwas performed on the system located
on the referenced property per your request. The septic tank
was pumped and verified to have a capacity of 1000 gallons. The
seepage pit was charged with 1000 gallons of water and after e per~od
of 24 hours approximately ~68 gallons had percolated out of the
crib.
It c~n be concluded from this test that the sewage system is
currently functioning adequately for the three bedroom residence
located on this property.

cannot be granted until the following items have been
completed:
(1) A four(4) inch cast iron cleanout needs to be installed
to the septic tank and/or leaching area.

this department.
An adequacy test be performed on the existing leaching
area. This test will determine if the system is adequate
according to National Standards. A listing of private
firms performing the test is enclosed. This report
needs to be submitted to this office for review.
