YE[ EI'T __-[:'8T May 31, 1977 R & M No. 751170 Mr. Everett Calkins Citation Road Eagle River, Alaska 99577 Subject: Soils Investigation for Sanitary Sewer System, Lot 10-B Eagle River Valley Ra~chettes Subdivision, Eagle River, Alaska Dear Mr. Calkins: At your request of May 27, 1977, we conducted a subsurface soils investi- gation at the proposed location of the sanitary sewer system on the subject lot. The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage, Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This investigation, which was accomplished on May 27, 1977, consisted of a test hole excavated to a depth of 15 feet below the existing ground surface. The location of the test hole is shown in attached Drawing A- 01. Excavation took place with a backhoe. In addition, all material excavated was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the excavation site is generally gently-sloping to the west. At the time of the investigation, the site had original vegetation and ground cover. The top of the'test hole was located at original ground surface. The soils encountered in the excavation are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-01. Groundwater was not encountered in the test hole. Bedrock was not encountered. Subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot. Based on the visual classification of the soil and the requirements set forth by the Municipality of Anchorage, we determined that a percolation test was not necessary within the test hole on the subject site. Eagle River, Alaska Dear Mr. Ayres: Pursuant to your request on March 20, 1984, we have completed an adequacy test at the above referenced site. In accordance with the Anchorage Municipal Code, Chapters 15.65, Waste Water Oispos~l Regulations, any on-site sewage disposal system, "shall have adequate capacity to properly dispose of the maximum daily sewage flow." The maximum daily flow is computed at 75 gallons per day (gpd) per person. 'Since "the population of dwellings shall be estimated at two persons per sleeping room," the maximum daily sewage flow for your three (3) bedroom house is 450 gallons per day To test the soil absorption capacity as well as the surge capability of your system, llO percent of the maximum daily flow or 500 gallons of clear water was added in 50 gallon increments to the leach trench. The water was obtained from your outside tap at its maximum sustained rate of about three (3) gallons per minute (gpm). The liquid levels were monitored closely from the two (2) leach trench standpipes and the septic tank standpipe to detect any back-up in the septic system. In the interest of safety, the septic tank was pumped prior to the test. On the first day of the test after adding 500 gallons of water to the leach trench, no noticeable rise in the liquid levels was noticed in either of the two (2} leach trench standpipes or in the septic tank standpipe. On the second day after adding 280 gallons of water to the leach field, no noticeable rise in the liquid levels was noticed. At this time we discontinued the test, as trw as apparent that the system was accepting the water at a rate greater than the design rate of 450 gpd. Based.on two days of testing, a percolation rate for your existing septic system of greater than 500 gQd is indicated. Since an on site sewage disposal system for a three (3) bedroom dwelling must be capable of disposing of 450 gallons of sewage per day, your septic system appears tO be functioning very satisfactorily at this time.
