All construction must be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska Wastewater
Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80).
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer must notify the Development Services
Department at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24 hours).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.
Special Provisions: An additional test hole is required near (no closer than 5 feet) the south end of
proposed field prior to installation to confirm separation to groundwater and impermeable barrier.
Please submit stamped and signed results with the as -built inspection report. If the results require
a design change, construction of the system will stop pending on-site review and approval.

Septic System Owner -installer Agreement
A real estate property owner (Owner) may install their own septic system.
The department may issue an approval for a homeowner to perform work on a conventional
(not AWWTS) on-site wastewater disposal system to serve that individual's owner -occupied,
single-family or duplex home if the homeowner satisfies and agrees to the following
requirements.
The property owner and excavation equipment operator may perform work on no more than
one owner installed project in a 12 -month period.

site septic system.
Attached are the following documents:

5. On-site Sewer Permit Applications
The adjacent properties consist of single family homes with on-site water and sewer systems. No wells
exist within 100 feet of the proposed absorption field. The adjacent properties should not be affected by the
location of the proposed improvements in regards to wells, septic systems, reserved space, and drainage.
The existing and proposed septic system is located outside of any travel ways.

Request for Separation Waiver
Dear Ms. Carroll:

Please reference our letter dated November 7, 2016 requesting review and approval to construct
the proposed on-site sewer system and your email dated November 28, 2016 transmitting review
comments. The purpose of this letter is to request a separation distance waiver for the proposed
absorption field to be closer than 10 feet from the existing field.
This project proposes to upgrade the existing septic system to bring it into compliance with
current Municipal standards. The majority of the existing drain field is believed to be located
within the 10 feet setback requirement as described below.
4 inch plastic pipe ends were exposed at two locations near the northern end of the proposed deep
trench. These pipes are believed to be part of an existing drain field system positioned within the
clean sandy gravels. The clean gravels appear to be backfilled around each of the pipes similar to
the native gravels shown in the attached soils log from 1 foot to 4 feet. There was no evidence of a
formal stone -filled trench or bed absorption system. Also, there was no evidence of odor,
discoloration or staining of the soils near or below the exposed pipe indicating very minimal use
or leachate application. The silty sand below the pipe did not appear to be disturbed.
It is intended that the proposed deep trench be located in the native silty sand deposits well below
where the existing field is believed to be located. The existing field will be disconnected and
abandoned. The silty sand deposits appear to be in a natural state and are suitable to receive and
treat the proposed effluent.
We propose to complete additional excavation and verifications to satisfy any MOA concerns
prior to installing the proposed drain field if necessary.
