Pannone, Principal Registered Professional Engineer E-mail: steve@panengak.com June 20, 2017 Subject: T12N, R3W, Sec 33, Lot 239 Septic System Upgrade Permit Request Design Narrative This is a design narrative for a permit to install an upgrade septic system to be issued for this property. The proposed system will serve an, existing three (3) bedroom house. Currently the lot is developed, and the existing undocumented septic system is likely in ground water. The system will utilize a new 1000g septic tank and conventional drain field. This lot and the surrounding developed lots are served by private wells. There are no surrounding wells within 100' of the proposed septic system. The proposed tank will be located 65 feet from the existing well on this lot. See waiver request I. Soils. One test hole was performed in the vicinity of this system by PES in May 2017, and groundwater was monitored for at least seven days. Ground water was observed at a depth of 3.0' below the surface in the test hole monitor tube in May of 2017. Bedrock was not encountered in the test hole to 6.0'. Based on the results of the percolation tests and overall soils appearance; an application rate of 0.7 gallons/day/square foot was used for a conventional wastewater system, in the area of the test hole. 2. Soil Absorption System Design. a. See Sheet 1 of the design package. 3. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank and drain field. The proposed drain field upgrade will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches, including Rabbit Creek to the East. 4. Topography: The existing topography on the lot generally slopes from northeast to southwest, with a slope of approximately 5% in the area of the drain field. There are no steep slopes within 50' of the proposed drain field. The proposed drain field will maintain 50' separation all steep slopes. 5. Drawing Markings: The Drawings are marked "For MoA Review Only". When written notification that the review is complete and that there are no further comments is received from MoA On-Site Department, the note will be removed and "Issued for Construction" drawings will be issued. Waiver: We would like to request a waiver for separation distance for the septic tank to the well located on the subject property. Due to the grades in the area the tank cannot be moved closer to the field. a. Tank (new)to Well (E):A separation distance waiver between existing well on Lot 239 to the new septic tank also on the same lot. The distance between the existing septic tank and the well is 62' and the new tank is to well will be 65'. We are requesting a waiver for the septic tank to the existing well for a distance of 60' on Lot 239. i. DEC Criteria:The well on Lot 239 is a private well with no documentation. The nearest well just to the north at BLM Lot 208 has a depth of 462 feet, with a static level of 18 feet and is cased to 462 feet. Due to the same terrain, elevation, and proximity to the creek, this well is likely similar to the well on lot 239. The soil cross-sections are similar across the area and a homogenous cross-section was used to calculate the DEC criteria for all components. As outlined under 18 AAC 80.020 and 18 AAC 72.021(a), I have calculated the following points: Summit Estates B1, L1 Septic System to Well: Distance from sewer system bottom to groundwater 0.0 Soil sorption below sewage system 4.5 Soil permeability below the system 3.0 Water table gradient 0.7 Horizontal separation 1.5 Total Points 9.7 "The sum of the above values could equate to the following conditions: 8-12 Contamination is unlikely from bacteria but could be possible from chemicals or virus." Additionally, this waiver is for a tank, not a field. During normal operation the tank will be sealed and will discharge into a pipe to the drain-field wich is over 100 feet from the well.This system has been operating in this configuration for over 50 years with no adverse effects.
