Moving the trench downhill allowed the contractor to avoid putting in a lift station. Unfortunately,the groundwater measurements were several feet higher in TH#2. However,when installing the foundation for the new home,the contractor installed a footing drain to pull groundwater away from the foundation and direct it to the back of the house, to run down the slope toward the stream. After several months,there was a noticeable difference in the area all around the home and septic sites. The contractor dug a new test hole between the two septic trenches and placed a monitoring tube in. After the 7-day monitoring period, the hole was completely dry down to 15'. This is a vast improvement to the previous measurements,when groundwater was found at 6'. We request permission to use these new measurements and disregard the old record due to the changed circumstances. We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the construction of a new well and septic system to accommodate the home. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the proposed well and septic system along with the alternate site. All of the surrounding lots are currently vacant. No conflicts exist between the proposed septic system and well or the proposed septic systems and wells on adjacent lots. Drainage arrows are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow on the lot. The drainage pattern will not be changed as a result of this project. The test holes placed on the lot in the area of the absorption trenches and alternate site indicate poorly graded gravel with sand (GP/GW). The percolation rate of the soil was determined to be less than 1 minute per inch. Groundwater was found during the placement of the test holes, and the levels after monitoring are recorded on the test logs- one hole rose up to 5', and the other one was 10' down. A 2' thick MOA approved sand liner will be required to slow the percolation rate of the septic effluent. We are proposing to place a new 1,000-gallon STEP tank and two 45' long by 5' wide by 0.5' effective depth absorption trenches with a 2' thick MOA approved sand liner to treat and dispose of the effluent generated in the house. The elevation of the distribution line in the absorption bed will be 3' below the surface and the total depth will be 3.5'. A minimum of 3' of fill or 2" of insulation and 2' of fill will be placed over the absorption trench and 4' over the septic tank. The ground surface on the lot in the area of the septic system slopes to the northeast at a grade approaching (but not quite reaching) 25% with some cross sloping from the east. The new trenches will be constructed parallel with the contours of the slope as much as possible in conformance with Municipal requirements. The new septic system will be constructed a minimum of 100' from all wells and any surface water and 10' the proposed and existing water services in the area. If the system is constructed as designed, it will have no adverse impact: • On the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. • On existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. • On reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. • On drainage patterns in the area.
