The manhole lid has been replaced with a water tight manhole lid (per Green General). The area has been final graded and now has asphalt around the manhole lid. There is good positive drainage away from the manhole lid. I have done a test on the well drainage system inside the manhole and it does adequately drain. The area below the well head and over the drain pipe has also been final graded and the drain sock is now secure and cutback. In short, I believe this should resolve all your questions and comments regarding the well head. Please issue the COSA at your earliest convenience. They are trying to close ASAP on this house. I will consider allowing it to stay, but have the following questions: 1. From the pictures, it looks like there is a hole in the storm manhole cover. Please confirm the cover is water‐tight (or have them provide a water‐tight cover). – I will get with the builder/contractor and have this done ASAP. 2. In the last two pictures, there is a note that the drain needs to be cut back ("stopped"). Was this completed? – As of the end of last week, the contractor was still hauling in fill for the driveway to the area below the house. They were going to add this fill and then cut the drainpipe back so that there is only approximately 2‐3 feet of the pipe exposed. I will check on the status of this. 3. Did GEG test (or witness someone testing) the drainage from this pit to verify it works? – We have not tested it, but I will go add water to the pit and see if it shows up in the outfall pipe or see if the pit will fill up. Will update you by the end of the day. 4. With the rocks in the pit, I'm not sure how you would really be able to confirm that water is not pooling around the well head. What is the reasoning for putting the rocks in the pit? – According to the contractor (Dan Green), there is approximately 6” of drainrock in the manhole (open bottom). He installed this in the pit to ensure the vertical drainpipe has good drainage around it. According to Mr. Green, the vertical perforated pipe extends to the bottom of the manhole to the existing grade and then 90’s horizontally to the drain sock pipe that goes downhill and daylights. Based upon the soils logs we performed on the site with percolation tests (1.7‐1.9 minute/inch perk rates) and the visual appearance of the soils in the area of the well head, the soils are very porous and any water that may somehow get in the well manhole area would drain rapidly. It is very unlikely that ponding water could occur in the area around the well head. In the future, I will want to see something in writing if Onsite approves the construction of a pit well. The proposed 5 bedroom house is to be served by a private well and septic system. Two test holes were excavated on the property. The primary drainfields have been designed around the 30 foot radius of Test Hole #2 and the reserve site has been designed around the 30 foot radius of Test Hole #1. We are proposing that a 1500 gallon septic tank and dual 5-wide shallow trenches be installed. The reserve site will require the use of a Cat II advanced wastewater system. The proposed well is to be drilled as shown on the attached site plan. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. The percolation rate for TH#1 was 10 minutes/inch and percolation rate for TH#2 was 1.7 minutes/inch. TH#2 is 1.2 gpd/sq.ft. using a conventional septic system. The primary drainfields are within the 30 foot radius of TH#2. We are proposing excavating a third test hole prior to construction for the reserve site as shown on the site plan/design drawings and performing a percolation test and 7-day groundwater monitoring prior to construction of the primary drainfields. We propose you will make this a special provision on the permit. 2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns 4. TOPOGRAPHY AND SLOPE WAIVER: Based upon elevations taken by GEG Consultant. Jody Maus, and the topography information from the MOA Argis mapping. contour lines are shown on the design drawing and a cross-sectional detail drawing was prepared (sheet 3 of 3) showing the topography conditions. As can be seen on the cross-section detail drawing. the 25% imaginary slope line starting 2.5 feet above the distribution line invert on the highest trench does not daylight 50 feet downhill., The area downhill of the drainfield is heavily vegetated and it is our opinion that there is minimum risk with the granting of this waiver. DRAINFIELD TO TEST HOLE WAIVER: We are proposing to construct the new upper drainfield over the TH#2 excavation. Given the test hole was backfilled with native material, was tamped down with the excavator bucket periodically during backfill, and that the 4" monitoring tube for the test hole will be pulled prior to placement of drainrock, it is our opinion that there is minimal risk with allowing a portion of the upper drainfield to be over the test hole. Please require the removal of the test hole GWM tube as a "special provision" on the permit. 6. TEST HOLE PRESOAK WAIVER: We are requesting that the percolation test for Test Hole #1 be evaluated/approved based upon the proposed wastewater ordinance, which does not require a 4 hour presoak. Four (4) recovery readings were taken with no change on the last 3 readings. 7. RESERVE AREA: We are proposing that a new test hole be excavated 7 days prior to the construction of the primary drainfields. A percolation test and 7-day groundwater monitoring will be performed. This will insure a reserve site can be provided in lieu of rebuilding the primary drainfield. A total of 4 test holes have been excavated onsite and we anticipate similar soils conditions for the proposed reserve site. We have identified a potential reserve site on the design drawing. We are requesting that this be made as a special provision on the permit and that the reserve site information be provided with the record drawings.
