Ref: Septic System Installation for Sunset Hills; Block B, Lot 7 — Use of Non -Conventional Wide
Drainfield
To whom it may concern:
The subject lot was issued a permit on 8/16/2019. The design stated a deep trench type drainfield with 6
feet of effective and 25 feet in length. A preconstruction layout was performed with the contractor and
engineer (David Garness, P.E.) prior to the excavation of the home foundation. Upon arrival for
inspections, the trench was excavated to a depth of 8.68 feet below original grade (10' max depth on
permit), and the fall from the house to the tank would not allow for 6 feet of effective. In short, the
drainfield needed a design modification as the drainfield could no longer be installed as shown on the
permit. The following are challenges associated with the field modifications to the design:
In order to excavate to a greater depth, the trench would have to have been further excavated by
hand and/or the trench backfilled (so the backhoe could sit over the trench) and re -excavated.
In order to change the design to a 5 -wide, the trench would have to be backfilled (so the backhoe
could sit over the trench) and then re -excavated.
Fall from the house to the drainfield was minimal. Maintaining adequate fall from the house to the
tank would only allow for an effective depth of approximately 3 feet in the trench.
In order to avoid a lift station (and obtain a greater effective depth), a feasible option was to extend the
drainfield from 25 feet to 41 feet to obtain extra square footage. The design changes were verbally
approved by the MOA onsite department for a drainfield that is 41 feet in length with an effective depth of
2.8 feet at 2.5 feet wide. In short, given the limited width, this is a "non -conventional" wide drainfield.
Although not ideal, we believe this configuration is a reasonable compromise given the installation issues
presented by the contractor and the elevation of the sewer line from the house.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems.

To whom it may concern:
The subject lot is vacant. Per conversations with the owner, the proposed home will be 1-
bedroom. We are proposing to install an IM-1060 infiltrator septic tank and deep trench type
drainfield. Additionally, the proposed well location is shown on the attached design drawings.
One testhole was excavated on the property and the drainfield is designed around its 30-foot
radius. Comments regarding the design are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: See attached 2019 testhole by Garness Engineering Group, Ltd. which shows the
soil classifications, percolation test, and groundwater monitoring.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: There are no topography concerns.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

Septic System Owner -installer Agreement
The On-site Water and Wastewater Section (On-site) may issue an approval for a homeowner
to perform work on an on-site wastewater disposal system to serve that individual's owner -
occupied, single-family or duplex home if the homeowner meets and agrees to the following
requirements -
1. The property owner and excavation equipment operator may perform work on no more
than one owner -installation project in a 12 -month period.
2. Owner's projected active involvement with the installation:
