1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (2417).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing
Special Provisions: The record drawing is to show the accurate location of the western neighbors well to
confirm that separation will be met for the reserve site.

RE: Proposed Septic System replacement for Mountainvale Lot 3
Dear Reviewer,
The above referenced property is currently being developed. The owner would like to install a new septic
system and private well to go with the new home. The adjacent parcels are served by private well and
septic systems.
We are proposing to install a new well, advantex unit, and a new drainfield. The drainfield will be sized for
4 bedrooms.
Included with this letter is a permit application and design package, including plans, and calculations.
A test hole was excavated and revealed poor soils and shallow groundwater was encountered.
The proposed drainfield is located in an area of steep slopes. A cross section has been provided which
includes notes to address the steep slope concerns at the primary septic site.
The design uses moa filter sand as a leveling layer. The topsoil layer will be excavated down to the
accepting strata and filter sand will placed in its place. The sand layer will not be placed too deeply in
order to maintain 2’ of native accepting soils above seasonal high groundwater.
The engineer will verify the groundwater table prior to installation of the system.
In the event the owner wishes to install the system at the reserve site, a change order application will be
submitted.
We are requesting a waiver to steep slope the lower drainfield is approximately 2’ from the top of a steep
slope exceeding with 10’ of drop or less. Fill will be placed as shown on the section view to create a 20’
separation between the drainfield and a slope greater than 25%. After 20’ the slope will increase to 33%
(3:1) until it intersects the existing grade.
Approval of this waiver will have limited impacts on the health and environment for the following reasons:
• A Cat III AWWTS is used, resulting in relatively clean effluent.
• The fill material will be sourced on the lot and contains clay and organics. It will reduce
the chances of effluent migrating laterally out of the soil.
• The downslope area will be vegetated.
Impacts to adjacent lots or the nearby creek are not anticipated.
