Development Services Department On-Site Water & Wastewater Program 4700 Elmore Road Anchorage, AK 99507 Subject: Pelenor, Block 2, Tract F-3 – 18440 Bernard Drive Well and Septic System Design Dear On-Site Services Engineer: The owner of the above lot intends to construct a new 3-bedroom home on the property. We are submitting this permit application for the construction of a new well and septic system. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home and the proposed well and septic location and alternate site. No conflicts exist between this proposed well and system and any other well or septic system on this lot or adjacent lots. An existing septic system is located on the lot. The approximate location is shown on the Site Plan. No existing well is located on the lot. The ground surface on the lot is flat where the proposed absorption trench is located. There are slopes greater than 25% and 46% to the north. The maximum drop of the slope is 20’ and then flattens to the Bernard Drive Right of Way. The absorption trench has been designed to comply with the steep slope provisions of the Municipal Code. The distribution line is set at 5.0’ below the surface and no surface disturbance will occur within 50’ down grade from the absorption trench. In addition, the subsurface accepting soil is silty gravel with a percolation rate of less than 5 minutes per inch. Absorption of effluent is expected to be downward with little or no migration toward the slope. Ground contours are shown on the site plan indicating the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. The new system will be a minimum of 100’ from all wells and 100’ from surface water and more than 5’ from the septic tank. Please refer to the attached test hole logs and plan and profile sheets for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties.
