To whom it may concern: ®V4;3jc'tJStO' The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private septic system and community water. A planned expansion to the house will increase the total number of bedrooms to 4; therefore, the septic system needs to be upgraded. Comments regarding the upgrade are summarized as follows: 1. Soils: Attached is a copy of the soils log. The soils from a depth of 1.5 feet to approximately 6.5 feet were sandy gravel, transitioning to clean sand. Throughout the remainder of the test hole depth, the soil was coarse, dark, sand (I have a sample if you would like to see it). Both the sandy/gravel soils and the coarse sand perked faster than 1 minute per inch. Due to the presence of the insitu sand, we are proposing to install a trench type system, without an imported sand filter. 2. Trench Design: a. Percolation Rate: <1 minutes/inch b. Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 4 d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 500 ft2 f. System Type: 5 foot wide trench g. Effective Depth: 4 feet h. Total Max Depth: 8 feet i Width: 5 feet minimum j. Reduction Factor = .5 k. Length: 50 feet. 1. Effective absorption area = 500 ft2 3. Surface Waters: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. 4. Slopes: In the vicinity of the new drainfield, the lot slopes gently (6%) downhill from west to east, and approximately 6 % downhill from south to north. In short, there are no slope concerns. 5. Wells: All of the lots within 200 feet of the proposed septic upgrade are served by community water. The wells are greater than 200 feet from the subject upgrade. I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. OF HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL P'OTECTION MAY 1 8 1981 In accordance with your request of April 10, 1981, I have performed an adequacy test on the sewage disposal system at the above property. The test has been performed in accordance with the Municipality recommended procedure and the results have been tabulated on the attached sheet. The system consists of a septic tank - 1000 gallons capacity and crib type seepage pit. The system was installed according to Municipal record on November 9, 1971. The test was started on 4/15/81 with initial measurements of septic tank and seepage pit effluent depths. The septic tank was found to be full and approximately 1000 gallons was pumped from it by Issacs Pumping Service (Invoice enclosed). After pumping the tank, some water was run through the house plumbing system to assure there was no plug in the line from the house to the tank. The water seemed to drain adequately from the kitchen sink and bathroom tub with an appropriate increase in effluent depth in the septic tank. Therefore, I would conclude that there is not a major restriction of flow between the house plumbing and the septic tank. The second and major part of the test was then started by pumping water directly into the seepage pit via the 4" diameter C.I. stand pipe at approximately 10 gpm. The levels were monitored in both seepage pit and septic tank until a total of 500 gallons had been added. The same procedure was followed on 4/16/81, 24 hours later and left for a second 24 hour period. The depths recorded are shown on the attached tabulation. Analysis of the data indicates that the system is functioning adequately at this time with the level in the seepage pit falling to within the 1" requirement of the original level after a 24 hour waiting period. The MECKit"JeRX 2820 "C" Street, Suite #3, Anchorage, Alaska 99503 Sharon Pitchford April 17, 1981 Page Two (2) results indicate that the lower portion of the seepage pit has probably been plugged with solids from the effluent however the upper level seems to be functioning normally. I would expect that it will continue to function normally in the future if adequate maintenance is adhered to. The septic tank should be pumped on a regular basis at least once a year to prevent an excess build up of solids and consequently a overflow of these solids into the seepage pit. If this is done, I don't see any reason why this system will not function normally for a considerable number of years. If I can be of any further service please call. relY, WayneUHenderson WH:sa Attachments Client: Add res Legal.. System: DATE 4/15/8 4/16/8 7/8 Sharon s: 9315 Er Lot 1U.
