1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska Wastewater
Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80).
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer must notify the Development Services
Department at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24 hours).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.

1. The abandoned well is to be decommissioned prior to Inspection Report approval.
2. Proposed system too deep for soils information submitted. The Engineer needs to do an
additional test hole prior to the construction of the septic field. Construction may proceed at your
own risk before the 7 day water monitoring is complete. Please submit stamped and signed
results with the As -built Inspection Report. If the results require a design change, construction of
the system will stop pending On -Site review and approval.

Septic System Upgrade
An existing septic tank and seepage pit has failed on the subject lot. A new soil test was
completed, silty sandy soil and no groundwater. The design calls for a seepage pit reconstruction
with new septic tank. The entire subdivision is on public water and septic systems. The terrain
slope is low relief at the site. The system size is a single family at 3 bedrooms.
Please review the wastewater system design. I have included design plans & specs, design
guidelines, & soil tests. If there is need for additional information or clarification please give me
a call.

SPECIFICATIONS & DESIGN GUIDELINES
Wastewater System Sizing: This is an existing 3 -bedroom, single family home. The
neighboring lots are developed- Public water serves this lot and most of the neighbor lots.
The current septic tank has failed- the Seepage Pit is to be rebuilt. There is no space
available for another system. The old log crib will be removed along with clogged drain
rock. A new Steel Seepage Pit Ring will be centered, with cleanout. No adverse impacts
are expected from tank replacement and seepage pit reconstruction. Easements are shown
on drawing.
Specification Requirements: All components and work must comply with the
Municipality of Anchorage Specifications (AMC) & State of Alaska Drinking Water
Regulations and Wastewater Regulations.
• Two compartment, 1000 gallon septic tank. Watertight couplings on inlet & outlet.
• 5' minimum between the tank and seepage pit. 10' to property lines.
• Remove old Log Crib/Bad Drain Rock. Replace with 4' in diameter, 6' high steel
perforated seepage pit, "Anchorage Tank or Equal".
• 4' of cover or insulation is required for tank; an equivalent of 1" insulation for
1' foot soil cover. Minimum of 2' soil with insulation.
• Tank & solid pipe must be set on well compacted, stable soil.
• 4 inch diameter cleanouts with airtight caps are required F to 4' from foundation
wall, prior to any 90 degree bend in 4 inch line, in each tank compartment, and two
adjacent opposing cleanouts between the tank and the absorption field, not more than
10' from the tank positioned to provide cleanout access towards the tank and towards
the absorption field.
• All cleanouts must extend to at least ground level.
• In solid pipe runs, ASTM D-3034 may be used in lieu of cast iron.
• Insulation must be placed over any pipe installed under driveways or parking areas.
• Approved pipe materials include cast iron, PVC ASTM D3034, PVC ASTM F789,
ABS ASTM D2661,
• Sewer Service Line is minimum 2% slope.
• Septic Tank to be pumped every two years or when required.
• Insulation board to be extruded direct burial polystyrene (Dow Styrofoam HI/equal)
DESIGN NOTES:
