In response to your request, we have placed four test holes
in the subject parcel at the approximate locations shown on
Figure 1. Those data and data from the adjacent subdivision,
Talus West, have been used to prepare the soil sections
shown on Figure 2.
The test hole logs and percolation data are shown on Figure
2 rather than separately.
The percolation tests were performed in accordance with the
local practice as developed by the Municipality of Anchorage
Department of Environmental Quality.
Two of the test holes are within the proposed street right
of way. The shallow materials are highly frost susceptible.
Therefore, for light traffic the paving section should
include not less than 22 inches, out of a total of 24 inches,
of NFS free -draining gravelly sand or sandy gravel, to
provide moderate protection against pavement failure.
The data developed in this study are consistent with those
developed in Talus West and lead to similar conclusions.
All of the soils, except those represented by test hole 4,
had low percolation rates. Effluent discharged into those
soils should be treated to avoid clogging of the "small"
soil voids. The area described by test hole i1 had a suffi-
ciently high rate of percolation to accept conventional
systems. However, it would also benefit from a "package
treatment system."
The exploration was accomplished with a Mobile B-50 drill
provided by Denali Drilling mounted on a tracked vehicle
fitted with continuous flight auger. Sampling was from the
auger bit at five-foot or less intervals. The percolation
tests included overnight saturation of the Boles. The soil

testing was accomplished and the drilling supervised by Mr.
O. Hatch of Alaska Testlab.
We trust the foregoing is sufficient to your immediate
needs, though not necessarily exhaustive of the possibilities.
Should there be questions, do not hesitate to contact the
writer or Mr. Hatch.
Very truly yours,
^
