Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Reft Proposed Well and Septic System for prOposed L6t 7, Hokama Heights Subdivision Addn. #2 To whom it may concern: The proposed 4 bedroom house will be served by an onsite septic system and a private well. Comments regarding the proposed upgrade are summarized as follows: SOILS: On March 29, 1999, two test holes were excavated and percolation tests were performed. In both TH#3 and TH#4, the soils below the organics is a SP/SM material to a depth of 3 feet and then transitions to a SM/ML material to a depth of 17.5 feet in TH#4 (bottom of test hole) and 16 feet in TH#3. At 16 feet in TH#3, the soils transitions to a SP/SW material to a depth of 18 feet (bottom of test hole). No ground water was encountered at the time of excavation. Two percolation tests were performed inTH#3, one between 3.0 feet to 3.5 feet and the other between 6.5 feet to 7.0 feet. The percolation rates were determined to be 30 minute/inch in the upper bench and 60 minute/inch in the lower bench. Two percolation tests were performed inTH#4, one between 3.0 feet to 3.5 feet and the other the other between 6.0 feet to 6.5 feet. The percolation rates were determined to be 6.5 minute/inch in the upper bench and 40 minute/inch in the lower bench. It is also our opinion, that due to the overall appearance of the soils, a 0.45 application rate should be used. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 6.5, 30, 40, and 60 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.45 gallons/day/ft2 c. NumberofBedrooms: 4 d. Design Flow: 600 gallons i3er day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 1334 ft2 f. Maximum Total Depth: 12 feet g. Width: 2.5 feet h. Length: 85 feet long i. Effective Depth: 8 feet j. Effective absorption area = 1360 ft2 SURFACE WATERS: There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed septic system. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the average slope for Lot 7 is a 5-10 percent slope running from approximately east to west; in short, there are no slope concerns, The trenches are to be installed parallel to all slope contours. CLOSING: I am open to any suggestions from your department, which would be an improvement to the proposed design.
