This subdivision contains 16 large lots, ranging from I to 2+ acres in size. Two new water wells were drilled and a third existing well (F&R Subdivision, Lot 3, Block 1) was used for the test. MOA records were reviewed to determine nitrate levels in the area. The existing well on F&R Subdivision, Lot 3, Block 1 has previously been sampled for nitrate, at a level of 1.8 mg/l. Another nearby well also has reported a low nitrate level; F&R Subdivision, Lot 1, Block I tested at 2.21 mg/I. The large lots which are proposed should have a minimal impact on nitrate levels in the area due to on-site wastewater disposal systems. A large flowing upper aquifer was verified during the aquifer test. This will provide a substantial dilution effect to any produced nitrates. I have conducted nitrate models in the past for similar conditions and the results generally are negligible in terms of elevated nitrate levels within the aquifer. n STEVEN- o W. This is a large lot single family subdivision. I have included report & supporting data. If there is need for additional information or clarification please give me a call. Sincerely, Steve Eng, PE, PH Enclosure: Aquifer Report Cc: Wildwood Development Proposed Valley Edge Subdivision Aquifer Test Steve Eng, PE, PH Summary: 1 During May 6-10, 2005, an aquifer test was conducted on the proposed Valley Edge Subdivision, Phases I & II. This subdivision contains 16 large lots, ranging from 1 to 2+ acres in size. Two new water wells were drilled and a third existing well was used for the test. Permits for the well sites were obtained from the Municipality of Anchorage On -Site Water and Wastewater Program. The two new wells were test -bailed by Sullivan Water Wells. One new well demonstrated a high flow, and the other new well yielded a lower flow, not unusual for a bedrock well. The existing well also produced a good yield. The three wells are summarized as: 1. Lot 5 Block 1: This 74 foot well was pumped @ 30 gpm for 24 hours. This was immediately followed by a 24 hour recovery period. This well exhibited a strong yield and most likely could produce a much higher flow; especially if screened. The open well terminates within the unconsolidated glacial lateral moraine. 2. Lot 6 Block 1: This 280 foot well was pumped @ 3.3 gpm for 4 hours. This is a bedrock well. This well was completely drawn down to the 214 foot level and stabilized at a constant flow rate via a valve. 3. Lot 3 Block 1 F & R Subdivision: This is an existing 100 foot well. The homeowner's existing well pump was used in a 4 hour flow test. The existing well was pumped @ 6.5 gpm with minimal draw down. This well is also capable of higher flow rate. An evaluation of the data gathered is summarized below. Data was graphed on semi -logarithmic sheets to determine aquifer transmissivity and storage coefficient. May 6,2005: A 24 hour flow test on Lot 5 Block 1 began @ 1000. The well was pumped at a constant rate of 30 gpm for the 24 hours. Drawdown eventually stabilized at 58' 4'. This well could produce a much higher flow if screened and developed. Transmissivity was calculated for the discharge well for the draw -down. The well curve on the semi -logarithmic plot demonstrates a flat draw -down over time, indicating a strong yielding well. T = 8785 GPD/FT (Discharge Well Draw -Down) The two observation wells on Lots 6 & 3 were monitored. These observation wells responded during the test, but at minor draw downs, indicating a good storage capacity. Storage coefficients were determined to be 0.8 and 0.56, respectively. NEERING Steve Eng, PE, PIi May 7 & 8, 2005: The 24 hour draw -down test on Lot 5 was concluded @ 1000, immediately followed by a 24 hour recovery test. The well demonstrated a strong recovery and was fully recovered in 4 hours. The Transmissivity was calculated for the discharge well for the recovery and compared favorably with the value determined form the draw -down. T = 8064 GPD/Fr (24 Hour Discharge Well Recovery) The two observation wells on Lots 6 & 3 were again monitored. Lot 6 was almost fully recovered within the 24 hours and Lot 3 did fully recover. The 24 hour recovery concluded on May 8. May 10, 2005: The two observation wells were pumped for 4 hours and recovery monitored. Lot 6 was completely pumped down to the 214' pump intake @ 10 gpm. The flow was then adjusted via a valve to a continual flow of 3.3 gpm. A transmissivity was calculated from the recovery period. This value is much less than the high -flowing upper aquifer. It is not atypical for a bedrock well. The two other wells were used as observation wells and had slight draw downs The transmissivity is higher at the highest draw down on the bedrock well: T = 10 GPD/FT (Average Well Recovery) T = 34 GPD/FT (Initial Well Recovery) The existing well on Lot 3 was drawn down a maximum of 4.2' over the 4 hour test pump. The other two wells did not have a draw down; this is because Lot 3 is higher in elevation than the two wells and did not have a significant enough draw -down to affect these two wells. It is likely that the Lot 3 well has a higher well yield capability. If a larger pump were utilized for draw -down, a higher transmissivity would likely be calculated. T = 365 GPD/FT (Well Draw -Down) Lot 5 Lot 3 Existing Well 2 3 S ` k ►► it i i- j .
