Your request for a waiver of the required 10 feet horizontal separation from the
on-site wastewater disposal system to property line has been approved. The approved
separation distance is 1.0 foot.
This waiver approval applies to the existing on-site wastewater disposal system to
property line separation only. Any future upgrade to the on-site wastewhter disposal
system will require all separation distances be met or another approval from this
department.

Ref: Septic Design for Del Subdivision; Lot 1
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The existing septic
system is in a state of failure and in need of replacement. Comments regarding the proposed
upgrade are summarized as follows:
1. SOILS: Attached is the soil log which shows the soil profile, and the percolation test results.
Below 0.5 feet of organics was a 1 foot SM layer followed by a SM/GM layer to a depth of 12
feet. From 12 feet to 17 feet (bottom of test hole) was a SM/GM layer with more sand. No water
was encountered during the excavation of the test hole. Three weeks later, groundwater was
found at 10.6 feet below grade. A percolation test was performed at the depth of 5.0 and 5.5 feet
and the soil perked at a rate of 3.5 min./inch. This corresponds to an application rate of 1.2
GPD/sq. ft.
2. TRENCH DESIGN:
a. Percolation Rate: 3.5 minutes/inch
b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.2 gallons/day/ft2
c. Number of Bedrooms: 3
d. Design Flow: 450 gallons per day
e. Minimum Absorption Area: 375 ft2
f. Total Depth: 6 feet
g. Effective Depth: 1.5 feet
h. Width: 5.0 feet
i. Reduction Factor: .78
i. Length: 75 feet (see attached detail drawing)
j Effective absorption area = 480 ft2

3. SURFACE WATERS: There arc no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed
upgrade.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: The area where the proposed trench is to go is virtually flat. In short,
there are no slope concerns.
5. LOT LINE WAIVER: We are requesting a 1 foot property line waiver from the proposed
tank to the north lot line and from the proposed trench to the north and east lot lines. We do not
anticipate any adverse effects by issuance of this waiver.
I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

NEAR O'MALLEY SCHOOL, ANCHORAGE, ALASKA
In accordance with your request, I logged the soils exposed in
your drainfield trench on July 19, 1976. The trench runs east -
west with the west dnd-located approximately five feet east of
the Lot 1- Lot 2 property line, and about 15 feet south of the
northwest corner of Lot 1. The trench averages about 11 feet
deep and 40 feet long. It had been open for several days but
no groundwater was observed. Surface drainage is good and to
the northwest.
Logging was performed by myself in accordance with the Unified
Soil Classification System, Soil Triangle, and FAA frost clas-
sification. Soils were classified in the field by means of numerous
grab samples.

The soil conditions are similar to those of Test Hole 1, Lot 2,
drilled on October 6, 1975 for Dells Subdivision, which had a
percolation rate of 9 minutes/inch. In my opinion, by soil type
and extrapolated percolation rate, a value of about 160 square
feet of absorption area per bedroom would apply.

Your request for waiver of the required 10 foot separation
between a septic system and a lot line has been approved. The
waived distance is 5 feet from the west property line abutting
Lot 2.
This approval applies to the existing septic system lot line
separation only. Any future upgrade to the septic system will
require all separations be met or another approval from this
department.

trench on Lot 1 of Del's S/D to be within 5 feet of the west property line, abutting Lot 2. A copy of the as -
built survey of the lot is enclosed as well as copies of other 1986 documents associated with obtaining
separation distance waivers between the well and septic system components.
The scaled distance on the survey as -built between the west trench cleanout and the property line is 6
feet. As can be seen from the 1986 waiver submittal site plan prepared by S & S, the existing septic
system on Lot 2 is located approximately 50 feet to the west of the west end of the trench on the subject
lot. There appears to be adequate room for an upgrade of the septic system on Lot 2 when necessary,
without any conflict due to the proximity of the soil absorption trench on the subject lot. There areno
other known impacts of granting the requested waiver.
