The proposed septic design is based upon a test hole dug on April 11, 2007. The hole (Test hole #1) was dug to 14.5 ft with no water encountered. After a 7 day monitoring period, no water was detected. The proposed drainfield is a 5 ft wide trench installed in a sand and gravel layer between 3.5 ft and 7.5 ft. A percolation test conducted between 5.0 ft and 5.5 ft resulted in a rate of less than 1 minute per inch. The soil quality was adequate to act as a natural sand filter, An application rate of 1.0 gpd/ft~ is used in the design. The soil log is attached. The alternate drainfield will have the same design parameters as detailed above, but with a maximum depth of 7.5 ft. There are 2 creeks running through the property. The proposed septic system will maintain a separation distance of 100 ft to the creeks. It will be located more than 100 ft from all private wells in the area. I am not aware of any adverse effect that this upgrade would have on any adjacent properties' water and wastewater treatment needs. ENGINEER’S COMMENTS G. CERTIFICATION & STATEMENT OF INSPECTION BY ENGINEER As certified by my seal affixed hereto and as of the validation date shown below, I verify that my investigation, based on procedures outlined in the Certificate of On-Site Systems Approval Guidelines, indicates that the on-site water supply and/or wastewater disposal system appears to comply with applicable Municipal and State codes, ordinances, and regulations in effect at the time of installation, unless noted otherwise. Name of Firm FIRST WATER CONSULTING Phone 907-350-9566 Engineer’s Printed Name CURTIS HUFFMAN, PE Date 9/6/2023 Comments: This investigation was completed in compliance with MOA guidelines, regulations, and best industry practices / methods. The assessment of the condition of the well and septic applies only to the conditions as of the day tested. The flow and absorption rates may change due to subsurface conditions that may not be observed from the surface, changes in land use, local soil characteristics, groundwater levels that may fluctuate during the year, quality of construction (workmanship & materials), the water usage of the family being served by the system and maintenance. The operational life of all well and septic systems are subject to these various and dynamic characteristics and are outside the control of the evaluator of the well and septic system. Therefore, any or NO estimate of how long a system will function satisfactory for current or future occupants or guarantee that no unseen encroachments, deficiencies or discrepancies exist can be given by First Water Consulting & 9/6/23 13030 Sues Way, Anchorage, AK 99516 907-350-9566 / firstwaterAK@gmail.com September 6, 2023 Municipalities of Anchorage On-Site Water & Wastewater Program 4700 Elmore Road Anchorage, AK 99507 LEGAL: CHUGACH PARK VIEW LOT 6 Per your request, an additional site inspection was conducted today to verify field cover. Based on cleanout pipe measurements from existing grade at the end of the absorption fields there was 2.3’, 2.5’, 2.9’ and 2.9’ of cover of these short, insulated fields. These measurements were from the end portions of the fields and appears the cover is greater over the length of the fields. These fields are located below the house in a field that is heavily vegetated with grass, cow parsnip, … and this dead vegetation will provide additional insulation of this undisturbed area. Per the MOA inspection report this field has approximately 4’ effective depth and is supplied from the septic tank to the end of each field. There are also good cleanout pipes for proper maintenance. For your information, there appears to be an existing groundwater monitoring test hole pipe extending 13.8’ below existing grade and was dry. Based on the MOA file of construction, documents, visual observations, and owner statement of not having any known freezing issues, we make the reasonable assumption and determination that there is adequate cover to prevent freezing.
