SUBJECT: Cousens Tract B Subdivision —Water Availability/Water Wells
TO: Dan Roth, Municipality of Anchorage On-site Program Manager
On 29 May 2007, a water well was drilled on Lot 1 of the proposed subdivision of Tract B
Cousens Subdivision under permit number SW 070069. The well was drilled to 180 feet
through rock and a water bearing strata was found at approximately 155 feet below the surface.
The recovery rate for the well is a minimum of 20 gallons per minute and it produces good
quality water. The static water level in the well two hours after drilling was 37 feet and in 24
hours it raised to within 2 feet below the top of the casing. This suggests that the water is
confined and has a considerable amount of recharge behind it.
Considering the similar terrain and underlying rock formations, it is very likely that a similar
well can be drilled at Lot 2 to provide water for that property in the future.
